  1. The launches I am aware of near Misery are Tuck's Pt and a little landing in Magnolia that is posted "residents only". I've launched there once accompanied by one of the "in crowd". So let's say either Tuck's Pt or provide something like a map so I don't get lost (I'm very good at it).

My favorite launch site is in Manchester on Ocean St. just next to Kettle Ocean St. (off of 127). the beach parking is open for anyone in the off season. I have parked there often in the summertime and never been bothered. Its a nice site to access some of the islands nearby. give a call 914-489-2673. Im still up for the harbor if we get anyone else interested.

  2. Bob, I am pretty intent on going and I would be quite willing to put up with some mildly inclement weather. If you are interested lets work out the specifics. Since you are more experienced with the harbor I will defer to you. Hows that sound Ross

hmmmm doesn't look liked there are any takers and its 5:40 on Friday night. I may just head out to Kettle Cove tomorrow for a shoreline paddle. That is if I don't hear from anybody.

  3. The weekend promises to be relatively wet and unpleasant but the forecast for Saturday has become downright tame. Is there interest in the Harbour islands?

  4. I'm gonna bail on this one folks... sorry bout the short notice.

That trip is better for me if it can be planed for arriving at the graves sometime around high tide.

I have a hard time landing there otherwise..

    To many old leg injuries.

    Plus i wanna sleep in.

    Have a fun paddle.

    Brad

Give a call 914-489-2673 if any one is still interested this morning. I don't want to drive all the way down if no one is going to show up.

  5. I can't join you, but a nice paddle with some open water, is launching from the Tides in Nahant, and heading out to Graves Light.

Sounds like a good paddle. I would be interested in checking that area out in the off season. Any other thoughts? Any takers?

Don't feel like the Isles on Sunday since I'd prefer to stay local and minimize driving. What about around Cape Ann? Tides look right for a counterclockwise paddle.

Sounds like a possibility. How about exploring some of the islands in boston harbor? Maybe quieter in these winter months.

  7. Beckers, If you'll stay in touch with Ross, I'll stay in touch with you -- if plans for Sunday materialise.

Hey Guys Sunday sounds good lets put our heads together to figure out where and when to go. Super Bowl is at 6:00 so we have plenty of time. MAYBE a paddle out to Isle of Shoals?

  8. Todays paddle was perfect so we're doing it again. Paddle rocky shoreline outside of Manchester down to Misery Island or take a left out towards Gloucester. Meet at Kettle cove beach parking (Ocean St. off of 127) at 9:30-10:00. High tide is at apx 2:00. Ross

  9. If you're talking about the "country club", in the offseason there shouldn't be an issue parking in the lot. In season the best thing to do is to park at the far end of the lawn at the edge of the trees. This was requested of us, we are guests in the club.

Parking at the beach on Ocean St. is not a problem because it is the off season.

  10. Paddle rocky shoreline outside of Manchester down to Misery Island or take a left out towards Gloucester. There are beautiful rocky cliffs and a few small islands to explore along the way. There are a couple of spots to play around in the rocks so bring helmets. Meet at Kettle cove beach parking (Ocean St. off of 127) at 9:30-10:00. High tide is at 1:30. I’ll probably be out until sunset. Ross

  11. Ross,

I'm hoping to make it down there tomorrow.

I checked the marine forecast and the Wetsands surf site, which predicted 5' swells from the SE tomorrow. That could be dicey along a rocky shore. If it looks too nasty, we might think about Good Harbor Beach for surfing on a sandy shore, or look for someplace more sheltered.

Sounds good I plan on being there tomorrow. We can make alternate plans if necessary. Perhaps even surfing on Singing beach or Kettle Cove. In regards to the earlier strands it is wise to check the forecast but it seems to me that we should wait until the day before the trip for a more accurate assessment of the weather. Of course it is important to watch for the conditions, but as we know these things can change on a daily basis. I'd hate to see some trips nixed too early. Just my humble opinion. Thanks for everyones input, just goes to show that as a group we have a wealth of knowledge as well as some very wise and seasoned paddlers who are watching out for each other. Hopefully we'll be able to get out there for a good paddle tomorrow.
