  1. It will be held at the Gould Barn in Topsfield from 1-5pm immediately following the New to Sea Kayaking Workshop (NTSKW) workshop.   Phil and Lorrie Allen, Bob Levine, and myself will be leading the workshop.  This will be a hands on session (so less presenting and more doing) working with folks on everything from basic compass use and chart reading, to trip planning, calculating vectors, etc.  The basic idea is to learn/review the material here and then practice on the water throughout the season.   We will have charts from a variety of areas to explore.  Attendees should plan on bringing a hiking compass and whatever other tools they may have / prefer to use.   Please feel free to post any questions you may have here.

  2. One observation from the most recent CAM session is that there may be interest in a nav session, covering the basics to more advanced topics.  Would there be interest in this?  I was planning to aim for April 2nd before the Haverhill pool session (so somewhere in that area).   We would cover the material on land and then folks could apply it on the water through out the season.

  3. A couple of us are looking for folks who would like to participate in rescues and incident management practice, most likely in the Salem Sound area.  You must be willing to rescue and be rescued, which means you will get wet on these trips.  Obviously a dry suit is a must.  If you are interested, please send me a PM with contact information/ email and we will arrange the trip s offline.  We will be doing these now until the beginning of May.

It does look like a nice park and play.

All very nice but if you go to Wales you have the support system and comradery of the BCU, easy access and good ale:) I have heard  the French have some funny laws about offshore padding or sailing. Anyone know of this?

    Paul,

I believe if under 2nm offshore, not much in the way of restrictions.  Beyond that, they require registered / numbered kayaks and no paddling by oneself.  From what I have read, they do enforce these rules.
