  1. We need Suz to let us know the publicly available  inside info.  I think that I heard that if we can get enough ordered they will make a special run.   I don't recall if the number was 10, 25 or other.   But with a big enough order I think that we can pick a material and color (I think that they all have to be the same color) they will make them.

So I was thinking of putting up a sea kayaking poster in front of my office. Something that might catch the eye, draw folks in  and get them to talk to me about sea kayaking.  And maybe even try it.

Trouble is, I can't even figure out what one might look like,  (nevemind where to find one). So what would a poster embodying our sport show? Pretty sure it's not a dude going down a 100' waterfall, or in some mongo Welsh tiderace;  also, someone floating in front of a small Maine island doesn't quite get it across. A Cape beach screams rec boat... So, is there an image that embodies your  concept of sea kayaking? Oe that might recruit additional interest in what we do?

I have a large chart of the local waters hanging in my office.   I am thinking of adding a 2nd one.

Before I give up on all that cargo space... are there NDK'compatible footpegs and/or stiff-soled shoes that might help?

My next boat's already got full-length footrests.

I had to give up 1.5" on my current boat.

Carl moved Julie's front bulkhead back about a foot and make for a lot more usable dry space in her boat.

With apologies for some thread drift...

I'm also having issues with my feet cramping. The little and big toe overhang the footpegs, and I'm having foot cramping issues after using the pegs aggressively for a couple hours. My foot is wrapping around the peg at each push, and starts to complain after a while. I've switched from NRS booties to Astral Brewers, which have a stiffer sole, and the problem got better, but is still not completely gone.

It really only happens during exercise paddles, when I use the pegs harder than during group paddles. Boat's an Explorer with stock NDK pegs.

It sounds like it's time to get rid of the foot pegs and foam out the bulkhead.

V8 Pro (why not V9?): Noticeably less twitchy than the V10 Sport, longer and narrower than the V 8, width and length between V8 and V10 Sport (V8 Pro:19'L, 19.9"W, V8: L18', W21.25, V10 Sport: L 20", W18.9"). Works for inseam 35". But you have to try the seat (bucket), width can be an issue for us bigger guys.

I was told that the epic might not be the best fit for me as the seat pans tend to be narrow.   My inseam is 36".   I was told that Fenn might have a boat that would have a more appropriate seat pan.   My friend is going to talk with her friend in NY who paddles a Fenn and is almost my size as to what boats I should try.

    Josko,

Perhaps Wes already told you about his online reviews, but here are a couple of good ones.

    This and this.

I'm thinking of an Onno for my next wing. I saw one at a Blackburn Challenge and it looked pretty good.

Just make sure you don't pay for the full paddle upfront...

Aahh, someone else attracted to the dark side. I for my part have swallowed enough BCU-Koolaid to be somewhat immune to assimilation, Leon.

I won't be assimilated but I could use something to make paddling around the house more interesting as I won't get ever get any of the swell by my house.  The current is good at times but it's aways fairly flat.

The Epic V10 Sport is a 20-foot long wider ski (18.9")

I will have to keep my eyes out for a used one.  That and possibly a large wing paddle.

This video has been making the rounds for a few years. Built one a few winters ago but have yet to try it out. I should get it out on a day paddle to verify the accuracy. A big bright cheap digital compass sounds great for the job, especially if it was waterproof.

I built one of these and it works well.   I plan on building a 2nd one for Julie as I now have the parts for the 2nd one.

So many opinions on this issue.  Personally, I like room to move my legs into contact with the boat, but also room to relax them.  A lot of the go-fast folks like enough room to emulate the surf-ski position knees center even in a trad. sea kayak.  Folks who've crossed over from WW seem to like the locked in by foam to give max contact.

    best

    Phil

Even in white water people are moving away from being locked into the boat to where they can't rotate.

On a related note, would anyone point to a link on how to 'foam out' the boat and/or select the seat?  I've never really understood what I'm trying to achieve with padding, etc. especially now that I'm focused on rotation and good leg work.  Does it even make sense to think of torso rotation/leg motion  and 'foaming out' the cockpit at the same time?

Just be careful about adding too much foam, it prevents rotation.

  11. It should have been 8/29/2008 when we did that leg of the paddle.   I bet that someone on the forum can lookup the data for the day. :-)

The flow was at least 3 knots moving north.  It was like riding a fast escalator/moving walkway.   It was a gorgeous bright blue day with flat seas.    They use large round balls  (think large mooring balls) in place of lobster buoys and they were being submerged by the current.
