Katherine, Jason
Also on my list, the half mile crescent beach is supposed to be spectacular. I think Peter Brady and some others may have paddled it a bit back.
Barry.
It's a very nice location, the wide sandy beach seems a bit out of place.
I have paddled the bold cost a few times and at least once with Peter.

If you can wait for 2015 this will be shipping in 2015:
"KEEN Water Boot — The Gorgeous Boot is a neoprene bootie made for cold water. The upper is built of 2mm insulating and cushy neoprene. Pull one on in cold-water conditions, and then jump right in!?"
It was announced in OR. The page doesn't link well. -
Jason, I need to check location.... I think it is pretty far up the coast, Rogue Bluffs is on the mainland. . I don't know why it is special but I have been drawn to it for a number of years.
This is the one that I found:
-
Ireland,
Newfoundland,
Maine
Alaska
St Lawrence Gulf
British Colombia
Rogue Island (Maine)
Are you talking about the Rogue Island in Harpswell, ME? If so what makes it special?

Seems like a good way to get something other than a drysuit fixed up for the cost of shipping:

You have it exactly right, John. It is "muscle memory" for the brain combined - if you continue to solve enough puzzles of a given type, you can begin to solve any permeation of that puzzle faster and easier.
Something I have been thinking a lot about is that you don't necessarily have to spend a whole day at a time doing this. You can just do one scenario before lunch during a day-paddle. That way, you can rest up and discuss it during lunch, and leave the rest of the day enjoying the trip. I also think that all kayak campers should do it at least once every couple of trips or so since, just because you are on a camping trip doesn't mean that something can't happen. Have people ever tried to T-Rescue a fully loaded boat? I will give anyone a trick that might help, but only if you come out to help me train!!
I have done T-rescues on a fully loaded boats before haven't noticed them to be much different, that said others may not have the same results.
Even an hour of scenarios can be very useful and potentially can take a lot of energy as you may have to be fighting off hypothermia, combative guinea pigs or lifting boats and people up 10 foot rock faces.
Scenarios can be fun, but a full day of back to back ones will use a lot of energy.
-
I also wanted to say that I myself am willing to be the one getting into trouble for those also training for 4* and 5*. Apparently I need some more but-in-boat time in the scary stuff (AKA rocks).
I am always glad to help with with scenario's. I am glad to jump out of my boat and over in the middle of a funky rock outcropping and pretend to have a dislocated shoulder etc.. If you need some more
troublemakershelpers please let me know. -
4* and 5* are a big jump up from the 3*. The 4* and 5* are very related and are each significant achievements!

I have ordered one as a gift, I am sure that we will get a review after it arrives.

I too would like to say congratulations to the two of you. It's a great achievement!

This trip report is really making me think of returning for another trip.

This link was recently shared with me: http://www.seriouseats.com/2014/09/newfoundland-cuisine-best-food-canada-travel.html
Looks like it could add to the travel experience.

If you carry you Iphone with you in your boat it would be a good idea to add an Emergency contact to your phone (or know how to access others).
With the new OS upgrade for apple that was just released they added a way to add Emergency contact information to the phone even with it locked. This link should help in setting it up (or showing you how to find the information if you may need to):

Another stellar trip report! You trip reports are always a great read!

I mostly likely will attend.

Ugh! Just spoke with Werner support. They received my paddle but apparently it's "too old" to repair (despite the fact that I told them it was at least 6 years old before I sent it in). They are going to send it back to me. My only thought now is to somehow fuse the two halves to make a one piece paddle, not very convenient but better than none. Good idea or not ? And if so, what's the best adhesive/technique to fusing it ? Thanks for all your help!
Barry.
A little West systems in the inside? If that doesn't work wrapping it with some fiberglass/West systems.

The Brunton 70P compass on one of my boats's got a dime-sized gas bubble in the dome. It doesn't seem to be damaged in any way, and I don't think operation is affected. It was installed in '06 or '07.
Have other folks had this happen? Is there any way to get rid of this bubble? If not, should I replace the compass or let it be?
I haven't had that happen, but I wouldn't be depending on it for a long trip.
-
Thanks, Jason -- good to know that's an option if a replacement knob isn't available. But more than likely, doing as you suggest (or replacing the knob, for that matter) is beyond my competence. I'll probably limp through the rest of this season with minimal skeg function, while figuring out next steps for dealing with it.
You might give a call to Carl ( http://ospreyseakayak.com/ ) and ask him about it. if you time it right you might be able to drop it off tour around RI for a bit and pick it up on the way home.
-
Thanks for all your input, Gene! Though I'm sorry to hear you're inclined to agree with the "stripped" hypothesis -- was kinda hoping you'd come up with a miracle cure. But alas, it looks as if some replacement parts are in the boat's future. Meanwhile, I seem to have minimal skeg function, but that's better than nothing.
Judy
If it's stripped it should able to be re-drilled and tapped with a new larger thread.

Let me know when the pizza oven gets installed!
One needs to talk with Suz, I think that she has two camping pizza ovens....
