  17. Thanks for the quick reply Rob. Actually I heard some discussion of the issue one time when I was at Chebacco. It was this thursday that I was planning to come. I will be going to Maine on Friday and thought I would leave a day early and learn something from you all at Chebacco!! Like to plan multiple paddles when I leave home with the rv/boat on top!!! maryb mystic / explorer lv (loaded with trim in mind! Thanks Dee!)
  18. I note that this was the last week that skill sessions are posted on the calendar. I thought that I heard that, at least thurs sessions at Chebbaco would be held longer into the fall. Yes?? No?? thanks for the coming info. maryb mystic / explorer lv
  19. Liz is correct when she asks, "Could it be that the Explorer hull only behaves properly when it is heavily weighted, either by the boat itselt being heavy or by being loaded with gear/a heavy paddler?" I understand that there is agreement that the light weight paddler does not weigh enough to get the bow down. that is why it is suggested that the seat be moved forward. I understand that new lvs are not coming with a fixed seat this year. And I was given a new soft seat by the "dealer" so that I could play with the(after I cut out the old seat) and see where the best trim could be achieved. Again, the problem for me with that is that the cockpit is small and if I move the seat forward I would have to be on the combing to make an entry. I would not, I do not think, be able to drop my bum in and then tuck in each leg! I have Lots of room between my feet and the bulkhead (I do not have foot pegs) and could put some weight there. Of course, I could also go on a hot fudge sundae diet still open to ideas maryb
  20. Hi all, I am looking for advice! I am now trying to correct the design flaw in the LV which is that the bow rides high. The suggested correction is to move the seat forward. I am trying to avoid this as the cockpit is already small and I am not able to bend my knees as I used to years ago. Moving the seat forward would further comprise my ability to quickly enter the cockpit. So...I am thinking that the correction could be achieved by adding weight to the bow end. I have tried adding about 12 lbs. to the very front of the bow which does does help the trim alot. However, I am thinking that perhaps having that weight in the bow will cause the boat to pivot around that point (which it did in soft wind after I got out). So the final question is, is it significantly better to add weight to the bulkhead in front of my feet rather that way up in the bow? I prefer the bow as I would have to add significantly less weight there than at the bulkhead. Any thoughts and suggestions to resolve the issue are greatly appreciated! thanks maryb explorer lv rail blue/white
  21. I am in the process of repairing the leak where the skeg line goes through my bulkhead (in my Mystic). I am thinking that I want to use a silicone caulk but have been cautioned not to because "nothing will stick there again". I am wondering if the reference is to painting the surface (which I will not be doing) or if it means that if a leak develops in the future (or if I am not successful in sealing it this time) I will not be able to use any kind of caulking to further attempt to stop the leak. (hummm, that was a confusing sentence!) any help on this subject would be appreciated thanks in advance maryb mystic yellow/white explorer lv rail blue/white
  22. Hi again, (see recent Baja posting) we are really working hard to get the numbers up so this trip will be a go. Since it is no longer connected with Maine Women Kayakers, gender is no longer an issue!! In terms of numbers so far, we have three for certain and one undecided. We need at least 6 paddlers to keep the cost of the paddle part of trip at $950 a person. Air transportation is not included. contact me if you have any interest in joining this paddle. maryb explorer lv, mystic impex
  23. if you just click the first icon after the name of the individual posting you will get a box to facilitate a direct message to that person. maryb
  24. If anyone of you are interested in joining us please contact me. yes, it is true, we are discriminating! maryb explorer lv rb/w
  25. you might look at the Extrasport "Retroglide Sabre". Two BIG pockets and one zip pocket about 3x5, all gussetted (sp?). the tightening system is VERY good and comfortable. I LOVE mine. maryb explorer lv rail blue/white mystic yellow/white
