  1. Definitely interested. But probably only 1 day...sunday if possible. Karen
  2. That was cool. But it brought up my "those poor, poor fish" feelings. A stranded fish. A wounded animal. Poor, poor bambi... Still, that was a great story. And I can't wait to catch some fish in one of those frenzies. Karen
  3. My antenna came out of my radio in an ugly sort of way .It looks broken...and of course has no reception. I bought it with a group about 3 years ago. I can't find my receipt and think it's still under warranty. Does anybody remember any info about it? I think we bought it at a West Marine organized by ____ (lovely lady who moved to the Pacific coast...I'm forgetting her name now. Thanks! Karen
  4. Thank you Dee for a great weekend trip out to Knubble Bay. This trip required major tide planning which worked like a charm thanks to Dee's meticulous (but not ridiculous) planning. We all had a terrific time and got chance to paddle some challenging but doable conditions and see lovely scenery. Mostly we ate really well, laughed a lot and got a chance to make affectionate fun of each other (that's what it was, right guys?). We are thinking of starting an NSPN cookbook. Whatta ya think? Great job, Dee!
  5. I learn a ton last night with Karen and Bob. I loved Bob's divide and conquer method of separating each skill. You 'feel' it before you combine it with the next skill. If I can really implement the skills I MAY just leave all you guys in the dust...in my Romany! k
  6. I know how tough it is to lose part of your family in the form of a furry creature. Sorry, Liz. May Frank be eating cans of fresh fish and dozing in paradise. Karen
  7. Thanks for the silicone suggestion. So far I don't have a beard to shave off. Karen
  8. I was irritated all day yesterday in the front of my neck gasket on my dry suit. Today I have a rather ugly rash ( had to put makeup on it for an interview this afternoon). I don't think it's latex allergy but the pulling of the skin in that area. I do have sensitive skin. Any suggestions? Do you think I could use a little silicone lubricant on my skin? Powder? Karen
  9. I want to thank especially Scott and Rick for their efforts, thoughtfulness and colleagial attitudes about learning for the recues and tows water session this past sunday. I learned a lot, got some confidence back and really appreciated the input from other leaders. Hope to see you all on the water again soon. Karen

    sun block

According to my cousin who does lots of dermatology, botox, collagen implants and the like, you should look for a sunscreen that has real UVA protection. Those formulas have an ingredient called parsol 1839 (I think that's the number) aka avobenzone. Neutrogena has an excellent product in the greasy and non-greasy forms. It really works. It seems to sting the least of all the brands I've tried. He also recommends putting on the sunscreen immediately after the morning shower, 30 after you enter the outdoors and halfway through the day for your face. karen
  11. I'm happy to hear you state so elegantly the lessons to be learned. I worried just a little about your paddle on the foggy bay that day but kept remembering your seamanship.
  12. Thanks Brian - great to get some encouragement. I only used it for two hours, so it's not the best test. Liz and I both figure that by the time we are in our late 60's we'll get all this stuff worked out.
  13. I'm embarrassed to say how much I struggled over the length of my new werner little dipper classic, small shaft in carbon. Many people gave me many different opinions. I had tried a 230 and thought it was fine cause of the low angle stroke. So I ordered a 226. The shaft is shorter than my 220 werner camano and the blades are longer. I just went on a maiden voyage in the Anniswam (sp?) and I'm fearing it will be too long-I'm trying to perfect the forward stroke. It's got the new Werner ferule that you can feather left or right from 0-90 degrees in 15 degree increments. I need to get in touch with Werner, but anybody know if those new ferules can be cut and what the limitations are? Karen
  14. I don't know exactly how much my 16' weighs but Liz Neumier's new racing 18 ft boat (suppose to be 55?) was significantly lighter than my Romany. Karen
  15. Yes it's true that my back hatch got wet from rolling practice. Just couldn't figure it out. Filled up the hatch, watched for drips, checked the skeg fittings - you name it. That 1/2 cup of water puzzled me. So somebody filled up the back hatch with water and put it on the stern end. You wouldn't believe the stream of water that came out of the toggle holes! Guess they just couldn't pour enough epoxy into the ends in between rounds of Guinness. Anybody else have this problem? Karen
  16. There are two spaces available tommorrow. Let me know if you'd like to attend. Karen
  17. Yes, folks, this will be really fun and great people. Please let me know if you plan to attend in case more than two people are interested. You could just show up with your $25 and hope there is a spot which is likely. Karen
  18. count me in. But let me know what you are buying before I put my $$ down. Karen
  19. I have a series of boat repairs that I'd love some guidance on: Broken bubbles in the gelcoat of my cockpit coaming have eroded into some sharp and nasty crevices. >>>>I have epoxy for this. I need to replace gel coat and/or fiberglass just posterior to my skeg opening on the hull from draggin the boat over sand. >>>Whatta ya think? bring gel coat, does anyone have extra white gel coat or should I just buy it in small quantity? I've been meaning to replace the scrawney (sp?) skeg line since I got the boat (6 years ago). >>>>>I'll just pick up some line at REI, anything special to know about this type of line? Do we just do what we need to for our particular boats or is there a specific curriculum for repairs? Thanks, Karen
  20. My Werner Camamo blade has a nick in it and appears to be fraying more and more. Could someone give me some advise about repair materials/methods for graphite? Thanks! Karen
  21. Would love to join you, at least to listen but will be in Tortola. Let me know if another is planned. Karen
