  1. Fiona Whitehead will attempt a circumnavigation of Sri Lanka. The total distance is about 1400 km, which she expects to do in about 30 paddling days. She will be accompanied by Matt Milloy, a British film maker and kayaker, who will document the trip. For updates, see [http://www.srilankabykayak.com]
  2. Last week I participated in a 5* training in Bodega Bay and San Francisco. Given the fact that this was a BCU course, I've decided not to post it on the NSPN website. Instead if you're interested, please see the report on [www.kayakseamonkeys.com]. Enjoy!, Werner
  3. Peter, rely on your hips and knees for your roll, not your feet! Werner
  4. Sing, Lots of fun again last night, looking forward to the fall session. Hope other aspiring surfers will join us there. (For Bob B. we'll keep the date at September 31st, all others do check the message board!)
  5. Mark, didn't you have a surf-yak for sale... (hint, hint) Werner
  6. Although I'm still sore from it, especially in the grin muscles, the surfing was an absolute blast. Adds a whole new meaning to the word addictive! Thanks for taking me out there and for all the pointers. Even though I am still deperately looking for the 'pocket', I'm having a blast trying to find it. Let's hope for some more waves soon, Werner
  7. We'll be paddling over to Peaks this coming Saturday (6/25) to have fun at the Peaks Island race. If you want to paddle over with us, we'll be launching at 8 AM from Eastern Prom in Portland. This is not an NSPN trip, we're not even claiming to be able to lead you to the Island! Werner Eastern Promenade- This launch site provides access to the harbor and islands in western Casco Bay. Take 95 N to 295 which takes you through Portland. Get off on exit 7 (not sure if there is an a or b but you will see signs for waterfront and also Casco Bay Terminals) Franklin Street - follow Franklin until you come to a left on Fore Street, follow that until you come to the park - Eastern Promenade on your right. You need to unload at the bathrooms and carry the boats to the sandy beach. Then park your car in the upper lot. Bathrooms are available. Kayaks cannot be launched from the middle commercial ramp.
  8. Suz and Jenna, I'm afraid I don't share your interest in single men, but I do support a section for personals. You'll have to check with the NSPN board if Massachusetts law will allow this to be placed under 'Events and Commercial Classifieds', as I'm not sure if this conflicts with M.G.L.c. 272 sections 2, 4A, 4B, 7, 8, 12, 13 and/or 53A. Although I suggest we don't go as far as to ask for physical sizes, at the least we should be able to judge the other party, and thus our romantic interest, by the type and color of their boat(s). (hint: it's not just about length, ladies!). SMWBD looking for SFWBD, NDK-E and NDK-GP, Y/W. Werner (With Black Drysuit)
  9. And what a day it was! Indeed, easy to get hooked on a small boat in these beautiful waves. Thanks to all for letting me try your boats. Hmmm, should I build my own Surfyak?
  10. Suz, I'll be there. I think you should organize a special team contest on rolling the tandem. Bill and I are game, you should get Nick to give us a prize if we don't drown. Werner
  11. Lynn and Mikael, thanks for letting us use you Amaruk, now it's up to the both of you to try! Great pictures, Thanks! Werner
  12. Walter, thanks for organizing this SNG, it sure turned out to be a beautiful day. I noticed that some of the drysuits smelled suspiciously like mothballs, I'm glad for all of those who had their first day on the water. Let's do it again sometime soon, Werner
