  1. For me time and distance have been an issue. I have wanted to take advantage of the Danvers sessions but tying up an entire evening for paddling after I've been out paddling all afternoon is testing the limits of familial harmony. I try to get out every weekend afternoon even if only for an hour, so trying to do 2 paddling activities in the same weekend is risking spousal abuse.

  2. I've given up the guilt trip on myself and just don't "exercise". I do try to walk rather than drive, use stairs instead of elevators, etc. Paddling is the best exercise I do to get in shape for....paddling. I go out as often as I can and usually paddle against the tidal currents of the Piscataqua River...don't cover much distance but it's one tough workout. I've found that 20 degrees + (cloudy or sunny) is still quite warm on these "workouts". I wouldn't hesitate to go out below 20 degrees but wind and other considerations would definitely come in to play.

  3. Can we say "Law Suit". Make something policy and in our society this just seems to open the flood gates to law suits. I think a lot of "harassment" sexual or otherwise is a matter of perspective. While some actions or words may be offensive to some the same actions or words may not be offensive to someone else. I'm sure that many offenders are unaware or ignorant that some of their actions or words are offensive. The workplace is totally different than when friends, ie. club members get together to have fun and comraderie. In the workplace there is the hierarchy of superior and subordinate with resultant expectations, perceived or otherwise, and potential consequences, ie. getting fired. But setting a policy in an organization like NSPN would only set up an antagonistic or defensive posture among members. With friends you have the choice to respond to the offending behavior or words or dissociate from the individual. Not so in the work place.

I for one would not be comfortable having a set policy and would have to reassess what this club means to me if we have to start implementing behavior policy. If there is a problem...address it, don't legislate it.

    Just my opinion.

You have so eloquently stated a feeling I've had since joining this club but have not been able to identify or put into words. Your spirit and that of others has been the magnetizing force that has drawn me to psddling more than the water and waves. I look forward to many more friendships and paddling trips with kindred souls and hope that this period of transition, growth, and evolution that the club is experiencing does not the obfuscate this spirit.
