    I can't make it tomorrow...check your e-mail

    Gerry

A couple of us will be launching from Odiorne Point/Seavey Creek at 10:30AM, with no set objectives. High tide is at noon, so there's the option for Gerrish Island Cicumnav.

We'll plan to be off the water by @4PM.

Weather forecast for tomorrow looks fairly good .

  2. Good Weather forecast for Sunday at this time.

High tide is 1:30, favorable for a Gerrish Island circumnav.

Launch from Odiorne/Seavey Creek at noon.

Common adventure model, so float plan is flexible, but prefer circumnav. of Gerrish Island, most likely clockwise ( Chauncy Creek first)

    SUN... W WINDS 10 TO 15 KT. SEAS 1 TO 2 FT.

Love to join you Peter but that Easter/family thing is happening for me.

    Have fun!

  3. I'm gonna bail on this one folks... sorry bout the short notice.

That trip is better for me if it can be planed for arriving at the graves sometime around high tide.

I have a hard time landing there otherwise..

    To many old leg injuries.

    Plus i wanna sleep in.

    Have a fun paddle.

I'm going to bail on this one as well. Time issues are tight so I'll stay local and relax.

  4. I don't know about Rye Harbor specifically but I was out last Monday and there were cars parked at the Odiorne bridge (unplowed in winter) and I drove around the Rye State Park also unplowed but manageable so the harbor area is most likely accessible. Seacoast NH has about 6-8" of hard packed snow thanks to the last rain. Peirce Island in Portsmouth is plowed in winter so that's always an option.

  5. Despite the fact I'm feeling really timid before holidays, the tide is all wrong, the launch site may not be plowed, and I'm not sure if I can shovel out the boats and drag them to the car in time, here goes.

Winter solstice paddle from Pierce Island in Portsmouth on Sat 12/22. Launch time 11:00AM

Maybe just wander about interior islands along back channel to Little Harbor, maybe as far a Wallis Sands if the brave pills work, maybe a quick look before saying "Aw, lets go to Red Hook and talk paddling". What better way to avoid the hectic pre-Christmas rushing about than by languidly paddling about.

If things fall apart weather-wise, will post cancellation notice by 8AM on 12/22.

The Peirce Island ramp is plowed and the parking lot across the street is also. Conditions look good out around New Castle and the light....around 1 foot, no wind as of 9:30 this am.

  6. Squam Lake camping, Holderness, NH-Oct 12-14

I’ve reserved a group campsite (limit 12) on Moon Island for Fri and Sat nights http://www.squamlakes.org/sla/camping.htm. Catch some ?late foliage on pristine “Golden Pond”, watch loons and bald eagles, and consider hike up Rattlesnake. Reply if interested by Sept 24, here or via private E.

  7. Anybody have any recommendations on how best to treat one's eyeglasses so that on a windy wet day they dont accumulate large amounts of salt? We were out last saturday with 20+ winds and after an uphill slog I could barely see through the salt. I'm wondering if something like rain-X would work for sea water the way catcrap works for fog on ski gogles?

    Thanks.

    Phil

ps, I cant see much past a few boatlengths without them, hence the question

You might want to look into lasic surgery. I had it done about 3 years ago because of this very problem. I had only one eye corrected for distance since the other eye was good for reading. I paddled in circles for about 2 weeks until my brain adjusted but it was the best investment for outdoor sports I ever made.

  8. Gerrish Island race is usually timed for the first full moon flood in Oct. to insure enough room for everyone to get thru the marshes to Brave Boat Harbor. This race is very much like Peaks without the traverse to the island; a fun race that some take seriously or use for training.

The nice thing about launching at Peirce is you have the option of going through Little Harbor where the current is quite managable if the river is to intimidating. However, at max the river is still a good option since Peirce is close to the mouth so the storm floods don't have a great effect. It actually gets quite interesting at max (high or low) since the area between Peirce and Gerrish is never really slack; you have water going out and still heading in to flood Great Bay or vise versa; hence the phenomenon of tide level vs. current being related to the topographical make-up of the specific area in question. Very strange but interesting to experience. Mid tide is a different story as it really rips near the prison.

I've been very satisfied with my Ravenspring. Breathable and custom sized. Gaskets fit nicely right out of the box, no trimming needed. After 4 years of medium duty use it still in great shape with healthy looking gaskets. At the time it cost me about $600 w/ shipping, import duties and relief zipper (a must but optional) Being a direct buy from a British Co. the cost will depend on the exchange rate. Worth checking out.

  11. I'll be putting in at Peirce Island about 11:30. Just need to get on the water. Maybe ride the tide out, explore the coast and ride the tide back in? Will plan trip at put-in. 2-3 hours but flexible depending on interest

Please respond here so I'll know to expect you.

  12. There is also a thing called decency and respect for others. If you host (post) a gathering and invite others to participate it seems a reasonable expectation that the host would be there to welcome others. If this is not the expectation I could post SNG's everyday of the week, anywhere on the planet...what would be the sense in this?
