  2. This probably isn't the right place for this message but not sure where else to turn.

I've been trying to post on the Private Trips Conference but the message doesn't post. I compose the message, the preview looks fine I hit post message but it doesn't post. Any thoughts?

  4. Hi Kevin

Welcome! In addition to leasing be sure to take advantage of the weeknight practice sessions offered at various locations hosted by NSPN volunteers. Not only is this great for improving skills but it's a chance to talk shop and try other boats.

Racks really depend on your skills and ability to load/lift/haul. I have an Outback and use only foam blocks and rope (truckers hitch is a great knot to know) I've hauled up to 3 boats on the Outback rack with rope for the tie down with no problems. On long hauls I add a line to the bow and tie it to the tow hooks under the front bumper.

I'm not dissing Thule or Yakima or straps; this is just what works for me....and my cheap yankee ways.

  5. He should check out oneoceankayaks.com I built the Expedition Sport and am very pleased with it; the plans and e-mail support were great. Having never been in a kayak I chose this design based on its description and feel it was a good choice for a beginner. The Cape Ann Expedition is the larger version for larger paddlers. I live in Portsmouth so if he'd like to see/try it just e-mail me at

gs01@verizon.net I'm currently working on a new boat so he could also see a work in progress.

  6. I'm in the process of building another wood strip/fiberglass kayak. Many people have expressed interest, curiosity, envy? etc. If there is enough interest I'd be glad to have a "shoptalk" session over a cup of coffee/tea in my shop, see the work in progress, answer questions, etc. The forms are set, I just ripped the strips and shaped the cove and bead and will hopefully start assembly soon. If there is enough interest we'll set a date for a group get together; or I'd be glad to meet one on one. This could be combined with a paddle afterwards in the great variety of water/conditions around Portsmouth.

Post interest or e-mail me directly

Looks like this Saturday (Feb 4) would be good for me. I'll plan to be here in the morning working on the boat so anyone interested should just come by around 10:00 am. Bring your gear and we'll do a paddle afterwards. If you're interested but can't make it Sat. just let me know and we'll set something up.

Call or e-mail for directions or mapquest

  7. I'm planning to paddle out of Pierce Island on Sunday. Destination unknown. Will depend on interests and level of participants. Put-in around 11:30, out by 3-4? Will keep it loose. Level 2+ paddlers welcome. rsvp...in case there's any change in venue

  8. Peirce Island has a $5 launch/parking fee but it is a good launch site. If boat traffic is heavy ofr the tide is still in bound then going out Little Harbor and around New Castle might be a bit easier.

Also the town launch in Kittery is a good (free)launch. A little tricky to find. It's at Traip Academy on Williams Ave. Follow Rt 103 thru town, the road then turns right at a gas station and Traip is the first right after this turn. Granite marker on 103.

  9. tuna and relish is the only way to go... except when there is a little mayo and onion and pepper to add as well. But tuna on graham crackers (as my daughter has resorted to at times) is totally disgusting

  10. I'm attending the AMC WW School next week and was planning on using one of their boats. However, after seeing Paula's post and responses it promts me to ask if there's a ww boat out there that I could borrow (or rent) for the weekend. I'm 5'8", 175# with big hoofs. Any offers or comments are welcome.

    Thanks

I have no specific plan but I was hoping to get out locally (Portsmouth) and enjoy the spring weather. I'll plan on putting in 11:00ish if you (or anyone else) would like to join me. Looks to be a beautiful day. Piscataqua River, New Castle, Little Harbor, Garrish Island? RSVP here
