EEL
I understand grease and oil should not be used on a skeg cable, but does anyone have experience using one of the wax based MTB chain lubes and , if so, does it work?I am in the process taking apart a contrary skeg and thinking there must be some way to avoid it becoming sticky again.I have other issues with the plastic tubing the cable fits in, but one step at a time.Thank you.Ed Lawson
jason
I had good luck with zipper wax. I took the skeg & cable out and ran the cable/wire over the wax a few times, then reinstalled the skeg.
Gcosloy
Less harmful to the environment: vegetable oil, doesn't last more than one season. Silicone paste: works great and lasts a long time.
ccarlson
I don't have a skeg cable but thinking something like graphite (lock-ease or similar) might provide lubrication without stickiness?
Pintail
<I took the skeg & cable out>Just as Jason wrote, Lawson-san -- take the thing out and forget it! <You> don't need a skeg, surely? (In fact, remove the whole skeg box and you have so much more space for camping gear -- right?) ;^)
Michael_Crouse
I've had good luck with Mclube Sailkote.
