gyork
Anybody know if this site http://www.nauticalcharts.gov/ is expecting to go live again, if ever? Gary Update: This sight now enabled for daydreaming. Gary
Gcosloy
I'm not sure if this site is the same, but it's up and works. http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov
gyork
I think the site I referenced is tucked into your address, Gene, under "Nautical Charts and Related Publications", sub-link "On-line Chart Viewer". This last link has been suspended for whatever reason, and I don't know where to surf to dream about future trips.Gary
bazzert
It's not quite the same thing, but you can download free charts and a chart viewer at this MapTech site. http://www.freeboatingcharts.com/ Once downloaded the interface is probably more responsive than an online web interface. lyngo
The link is dead but you can still get to the same page by the menu on the left hand side. Or try this link: http://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/Raster/download.htm BTW, I bought a program called Chartbook Maker for $30 after reading about it in Atlantic Coastal Kayaker. It helps organize and get the charts into a printable form so you can easily make a chart book with waterproof paper. jason
If you find that the site never returns I have all of east coast charts saved on my laptop and can put them on DVD. It's about 3.6GB of files. -Jason

jason
I haven't spent much time looking for OSS that can open them. For now I am using VMWare to running XP a virtual Machine to make it work. http://www.vmware.com/products/player/ -Jason
EEL
>I haven't spent much time looking for OSS that can open >them. >Supposedly this can be done using GDAL and GRASS, but I have not spend the time seeing if all the parts work since I cannot get the chart files from NOAA to start.Ed Lawson
