tommmyc
strokes does it take the average kayaker to complete a nautical mile. please use an average summer day with good weather as a guide. i ask this ????????? for a reason. the reason is i have been using an iron bar to imitate the motion of a basic stroke as i try to build up my distance. thanks in advancetom
Suz
Just did this in training with two other people. I was at 996, one other was at 1226 and another at 880. There is a tremendous variation between individuals. This is useful information though to know when paddling for times when you need to make time/distance calculations in the fog or dark.Suz
ccarlson
It will depend upon your paddle length, cadence, etc. I run right around 800. Best thing to do is get in your boat and paddle to get YOUR typical number. So, is an iron bar something like a GP? ;-)

tommmyc
actually the iron bar is used to get a manual brake release on a green line trolley. we call it an unwinding tool. old tool for an old train.
jonsprag1
If you really wanted to build strength and endurance, you should try paddling your kayak with the iron bar.
