  2. i would love to go. i have tues and wed as days off. the only problem is i am at best a level 2 right now. i can do 7 miles on the charles river in an hour and 25 minutes. i have only been in the ocean 3 times this year. i need a LOT of help. tom
  3. i have a ford escape. i was using a step stool with 2 steps to load my tempest 170 on my J bar. one day a strong wind gust knocked me and the kayak to the ground. i went out and bought one that day and love it. good luck.
  4. actually the iron bar is used to get a manual brake release on a green line trolley. we call it an unwinding tool. old tool for an old train.
  5. strokes does it take the average kayaker to complete a nautical mile. please use an average summer day with good weather as a guide. i ask this ????????? for a reason. the reason is i have been using an iron bar to imitate the motion of a basic stroke as i try to build up my distance. thanks in advance tom
  6. know where i can pick up a used tempest170 or 180?????? I have been looking but no luck. thanks tom

  11. i would love to buy kevlar or glass but i don't want to ruin it. tom

  13. i should have added that i am going with the 170 vs 165 because i am 5'9" and about 235lbs. i have tried them both and the 170 fits me real nice for my size. tom
  14. the tempest 170 or a similar kayak. please keep in mind i am new to the kayak world but do have long term plans to get my feet wet in the ocean. thanks in advance tom
  15. thanks for the info. i will be at crck this week to sign up for classes. i already bought the dry suit and it has been used twice. i actually ended up using my 20% cupon at rei. i also would like to thank everybody for the advice. almost forgot.......... i bought the super nova with the neoprene neck. the latex neck was just to tight and uncomfortable for me. thanks to all. tom
