i am going to try to finally go to a nspn practice. any help with all aspects of kayaking will be great. i have a lot to learn. one question though..........how is the water there.........cold,clean etc... tom
i would love to go. i have tues and wed as days off. the only problem is i am at best a level 2 right now. i can do 7 miles on the charles river in an hour and 25 minutes. i have only been in the ocean 3 times this year. i need a LOT of help.
tom
i have a ford escape. i was using a step stool with 2 steps to load my tempest 170 on my J bar. one day a strong wind gust knocked me and the kayak to the ground. i went out and bought one that day and love it. good luck.
strokes does it take the average kayaker to complete a nautical mile. please use an average summer day with good weather as a guide. i ask this ????????? for a reason. the reason is i have been using an iron bar to imitate the motion of a basic stroke as i try to build up my distance. thanks in advance tom
i should have added that i am going with the 170 vs 165 because i am 5'9" and about 235lbs. i have tried them both and the 170 fits me real nice for my size. tom
the tempest 170 or a similar kayak. please keep in mind i am new to the kayak world but do have long term plans to get my feet wet in the ocean. thanks in advance tom
thanks for the info. i will be at crck this week to sign up for classes. i already bought the dry suit and it has been used twice. i actually ended up using my 20% cupon at rei. i also would like to thank everybody for the advice. almost forgot.......... i bought the super nova with the neoprene neck. the latex neck was just to tight and uncomfortable for me. thanks to all. tom
for your input on the drysuit. i went with the super nova from kokatat.i tried it out today on the charles river. i only went 5 miles total and the suit kept me warm with a hyroskin layer under it.maybe by the end of the summer i will give the ocean a try. i plan on taking a class or two first though. almost forgot.... i recieved my ACA card in the mail today after a short wait of 16 weeks. it must have been there busy season. if anyone has wednedays or thursdays off let me know i am always looking for a partner or 2 to do a level 2 paddle once again thank you to all tom
i want to thank all everybody for there thoughts on the dry suit. i will look at a few and go from there. i want to try a variety of suits and hopefully pick the right one the first time. once again thank you tom
thanks for the help. i will look it up. i have a thing about something tight like the latex gaskets they use on the neck. always makes me wonder who invented the necktie and why men have been trying to choke themselves with them all these years tom
thanks for the advice. any ideas on which one would be great. i will be going out about twice a week on the lower charles river soon. i also have a 2 minute drive to the waltham put in so i will make use of that too. i am also thinking about upgrading to a tempest 170. i am large framed so i think that will be a good fit for a beginner. thank you in advance tom
i am thinking about buying a dry suit but i don't even know if i need one. i am basically a slow river or lake paddler. i do have a yearning to try the ocean this year though. thank you tom
