JohnHuth Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Hi, All - I'm currently hunkered down (mostly) in Harwich Port, thanks to Zoom. I *think* I'm seeing ocean waves crashing on what appears to (maybe?) be a new cut on Monomoy. There was an area in the mid-section that was getting thinner and thinner. I'm wondering if the recent nor'easter cut through. Currently, there is not enough wind on Nantucket Sound to produce big swell, and I'm guessing that it's ocean swells breaking in the shoals of the cut. I'll do some detective work and report back. It's a bit too much of a paddle for February - I'm checking sources. If anyone has info, please pass it along. Quote
JohnHuth Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 It could be the southernmost of one of the old cuts, but I just don't remember seeing waves breaking there. Quote
eneumeier Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 it would be so cool if a cut formed there, new or old. Liz Quote
Nancy Hill Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 There is a new wash-over directly across from Chatham Bars Inn as of February 3. There is a Facebook page called "Chatham's Three Breaks". It is there you'll find pictures and video. Quote
prudenceb Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Channel 5 news showed the cut from the air tonight. Pretty impressive. Quote
josko Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Faye Dangelo and I are waiting for a weather window to go paddle Monomoy, hopefully later this month (2/21). Let us know if you'd like to be included on the email list. Entrance to Pleasant bay has changed significantly, and the gap to Monomoy is still pretty wide. Quote
