  1. We have traveled from Cross to Lubec with an early AM launch to make the flood. We took the escalator for a quick ride up. The big flow was about a 1/2 - 3/4 miles off shore. Please keep in mind that you have to make it through the Lubec bridge with the flow as you won't be able to paddle against it. We made it to Eastport in time for Lunch.
  2. Keven, Do you already have your group together? If so I would like to move this thread out. If you don't it would be worth letting the group know that your still looking for people and that they should e-mail you as your don't seem to be able to accept PM's.
  3. Looks like it was a really great trip. Thanks for sharing it.
  4. Can you please provide examples of this too much 'safety' gear?
  5. I always bring my tow belt. Much of your other group gear works for a single person. First aid kit, radio, group shelter, spare cloths. If you bring it, you are much less likely to need it. As for the tow belt it's something that I won't go on the water without. If I need to scramble up on rocks I can attach my boat to me and pull it up. When I am solo I am more diligent about pulling my boat out of the water and tieing it off am I am going to go on a walk. It allows to to float your boat if your at a place where you can't take it out (someone else's dock etc). Help others in need.
  6. He just needs the dry land rolling DVD: http://www.benlawry.net/Ben_Lawry/DVDs.html it won't get him hit in the head with 100 LBs of weights.
  7. 5/7/2016 at 16:47 I stopped by the town launch and the water was running fairly fast North (possibly 3 knots). I wonder if that's due to springs or if it has a small window that I hadn't viewed before.
  8. Does anybody have a source for information on the current information for the Back River near Westport Island. I have paddled a few times from the Town ramp ( https://goo.gl/maps/kKhJub6eTcS2 )and it seems that the water always is flowing south. I have been at high, low and at a mid tide, and have yet to see the water flowing north. Thanks -Jason
  9. I always enjoy Pru's trip reports. It's almost as good as joining the trip.
  10. Kite boarding also looks like a blast. A number of people can be found getting a lot of air on big days at Popham. I still rather a good kayak surf day over most anything else.
  11. Will we see get to see the Baja trip report/pictures?
  12. Phil, Any chance in finding the rechargeable one in blue. I have picked up a number of these: http://smile.amazon.com/Cyalume-SnapLight-Industrial-Chemical-Duration/dp/B004NBZLJC as it takes the the red/green confusion/special meaning out of play.
  13. Just took a look and it's about a 32 mile paddle to get to Jewell. It wouldn't be that bad but it's a mid day high and the water will be against me. That and I don't yet know if I will be free for the weekend.
  14. I wouldn't use a rescue knife for oysters or anything that might dull it. I leave it sticking out of a pocket and rinse it, open close it after every paddle.
  15. If your going to carry a knife I like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Atlantic-Serrated-Knife-Yellow/dp/B000FLTP0A
  16. When I finished a NYC Nircumnav in 2008 we had this:
  17. Primus has new fuel that should help with winter camping: http://www.thegearcaster.com/2016/01/primus-winter-gas.html
  18. They are giving all kayakers a bad name. They were able to find not just one but two strainers in a trip? They were looking for a darwin award. They really should have to pay for their own rescue.
  19. I think that they missed a few steps in the planning: http://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2015/08/12/stranded-kayakers-river-rescue-dnt.knxv/video/playlists/amazing-rescues/
  20. Doug, The upgrade was only the message board. The people that wrote the message board software have been pushing everybody running the 3.x version to upgrade for ~24 months. We waited a fairly long time for the upgrade. The 4.x version is the version that they are providing security and functionality updates as 3.x has been deprecated. With the new version it was a complete re-write and with that it has some real pluses and minuses. One of the thinks that I think that you will like is how easy it is now to upload and attach pictures. When we setup the dev version of the site back in July it was pointed out that one can edit post in work and easily cut and paste it into the forum without the formatting issues that we had with the 3.x version. We are hitting a number of bumps with the upgrade. Some of them were know before the upgrade such as that the skins wouldn't transfer over, in time I expect that the BOD will bring the person in that built the 3.x version. Others such as the RSS for the calendar changing urls and formats was not expected. It wasn't the cleanest or easiest upgrade. Rob's been doing a great job helping with it and hopefully we will get it to where people are happy with it and hopefully we are another 5-7 years away from a version upgrade that's this disruptive.
