  1. I love the "View New Content" option, but have a problem. In the morning I usually have my browser open a whole bunch of tabs at once, including NSPN. Before the end of the day, I normally get to each tab, including NSPN. When I get to the NSPN tab, I click "View New Content". Unfortunately, on days like today, where I connected to NSPN in the morning, but don't click "View New Content" until late in the day, instead of getting all the content that I have not read, I get a message like: There are 3 new entries since Today, 10:11 AM So basically, on days like today, I'm missing all the new content that occurred before I opened my browser tabs this morning. Is there a workaround? Some other way to get a listing of all the recent content without having to manually visit each individual message board? I'd be happy to manually specify that I wanted the new content from the last N days, or something along those lines. The board is just trying to be too helpful in my case. thanks, Bill Voss
  2. If the weather resembles or even I plan to be there on Friday to see However, if the weather resembles I'll be staying home. -Bill
  3. Belated August 3rd congratulations to Warren for doing the back-deck rodeo roll in his polo kayak on his first attempt, then repeating it as he says "100 more times." August 17th congratulations to Warren for repeating the back-deck rodeo roll in a nice long sea kayak. Note: Warren also has a hand-roll, so I'm not surprised he found the back-deck rodeo roll trivial. Speaking of hand-rolls. Congratulations to Les who I saw do her first two hand-rolls yesterday! I also saw her stand up in her boat (for a very long time) and eventually juggle two balls. She promises to try 3 balls next time. So come join us, and enjoy her performance. Warning to all, be careful of the signs when you park, especially if you annoy a grumpy old non-NSPN paddler with a tendency to complain to the rangers. One of our group escaped with an official "warning" from the rangers on August 17th for parking between the "Reserved for trailers" signs. Unfortunately, on nice days like yesterday, the boat launch lot can fill up very quickly at 5pm, leaving you little choice but to unload, and then drive to the main lot to park. We have 2 more sessions coming up this month. August 24 - Sunset 7:34pm August 31 - Sunset 7:22pm Some of our regulars, including Les, will not be able to attend after school starts, the life guards say the swim area closes after Labor Day, and the rangers say they will start closing the boat ramp at sunset instead of 7:30pm. September 7 - Sunset 7:10pm September 14 - Sunset 6:58pm September 21 - Sunset 6:45pm September 28 - Sunset 6:33pm Is anyone else interested and capable of meeting around 4pm in September instead of 5pm, or should we just admit the season is over after August? -Bill
  4. In the preventive department, I used to always dump and immediately refill the bladder with city tap water after every use, then immediately stick the bladder in the fridge. Thus I always had cool water immediately available, and very very little growth in the bladder or tube. Now, like most, I just try to drain and air out my bladder. That does not work nearly as well as the old system. However, now I'm on well water, and now I share the fridge with my wife. So my old system is no longer practical for me. -Bill
  5. I'm signed up for the NH AMC Paddlers Sea Kayak Workshop next weekend, so I will not be able to join you on August 13th. Have a nice paddle. -Bill Voss
  6. I have not been there before, but it looks like this Google link should get you very close. Google gives the address information as: Cape Neddick Campgrounds 62 Shore Road Ext Cape Neddick, ME 03902 (207) 363-4366 harbourview.com‎
  7. August 3rd was a gorgeous evening at Walden Pond, with a water temperature around 82 degrees. Congratulations to Les who stood in her kayak and juggled one ball. I'm looking forward to seeing her juggle two balls while standing in her kayak next time! Also congratulations to Tom who greatly improved the reliability of his roll. He did quite a few of them, including one string of three nice rolls in a row! Good job Tom! Hope to see you all again next week. -Bill
  8. This sounds like fun! I'll plan to join you. Based on the time I'll pack a lunch. Should I also tell my wife not to expect me home for dinner, because I'll be joining friends at the Pound? -Bill
  9. I would love to join you a bit later in the day. Around 10:30am BIB is my personal ideal for most launch sites between Boston and Portsmouth.
  10. Without Les and with scary weather attendance was certainly light on July 13th. However, Eric and I both showed up as the rain stopped and the sun came out. The rule may be 3 to sea, but 2 worked out quite well for rolling practice. I even figured out that I can do the Greenland Chest Scull with my Euro Paddle , if I just skip the scull part ! Hope to see more of you next week.
  11. I'm scheduled to join the AMC trip down the coast to Rye and back that morning. I'll wave if I see you.
  12. I have a question about the August 2011 issue of Sea Kayaker Magazine article Safety Storm Islands Rescue by Matt Broze As I understand it, the article says the kayakers had filed a float plan with the Coast Guard. It also suggests that they should have used their VHF radio to update their float plan with the Coast Guard when they decided to change their plans. It is certainly true that boaters should leave a float plan ashore, ideally with a trusted individual. It is also true that the Coast Guard will want a copy of the float plan if the boater is reported overdue. However, all my Google searches say the Coast Guard does NOT accept float plans until a boater is reported overdue. Did the Coast Guard accept float plans in the past? Does it depend on the location? Perhaps the Coast Guard in lightly populated areas accepts float plans? Is the article just wrong? Just curious, Bill
  13. Darn. I was really looking forward to going. I suppose it is prudent to avoid getting hit by lightning. Hopefully I'll see you all next week. -Bill
  14. Definitely a great session. Les looks pretty tall when she stands up in her kayak. I can hardly wait to see her juggle! Peter showed us how to kiss the bow or your kayak. Apparently he really loves his kayak. Plus plenty of rolling, assisted rescues, and solo rescue practice. I'm definitely looking forward to future sessions. -Bill P.S. Rick S. My skin on frame was fine for T-rescues of other boats. No issues at all.
  15. I plan to burn some vacation time and attend today.
  16. Another great CAM Workshop! Thanks again to everyone, especially Scott. I had a great time. -Bill

  20. Yippee! I was too shy to ask, but I'm sure glad you moved the date. The CAM workshop was great last year. I'm definitely looking forward to attending this year, and practicing rescues with my new boat. -Bill
