  1. Hi Folks,

So sorry to have missed this opportunity, didn't see this posting until too late, next time for sure...up at 5:00 am every day this week & back home only to fall into the bed! I am going to the RICKA mtg Monday evening as I would like to get to know the area and paddle. Staying over Monday pm and Tuesday am meeting up with Carl Ladd to learn how my new Aries will behave in current and surf!

    Cheers, Sue

  2. Hi Gary and All,

Count me in too! I have been staying on and off all summer outside of Boothbay (rented a studio), which is only an hour away from the campground. I have this space through the middle of October, so I plan to sleep there for the weekend, but am looking forward to paddling and generally hanging out with folks. Were you planning to have Potluck evening meals, eating out or some combo or individual eating plans?

    Cheers, Sue

  3. The info keeps rolling in, so thanks. I may be foolish at times, but I was not planning to mount the phone on the deck of my boat, I was not planning to use my phone in any form on-the-water...I can barely tolerate technology off the water...but I indulge out of necessity. Since I have not had a tablet to date, and my laptop is not that portable, I thought I should load up my only constant companion, aka smart phone, with kayak planning apps, in order to readily access that info during those in-between moments, and on-the-go...again, not while paddling... or driving for that matter!

Since our national symbol (bald eagle) often prefers to steal the food caught by others, rather than hunt for its own food exclusively, maybe (with national pride in mind and inspired by the bald eagle)...I should just steal Warren's phone...appetite satisfied!

    Cheers, Sue

  4. I didn't know my simple inquiry would elicit so many wonderful, detailed and humorous responses...I should have known better considering the NSPN gene pool ! I think this quote may apply here, "The life of the mind, the life of the genome and the gene pool are characterised alike in this way by change, and change which feeds on the random." Thanks all for the info and joy of reading your responses!

One of the reasons I asked my original question, is that I was envious of all the kayaking related apps Warren had on his iphone...my phone is less organized and I have bookmarked the actual web sites for weather, current, etc., appearing to be no where near has handy, to be as user friendly. Since I was positioned to be upgrading everything, I thought I would seek opinions, advice, counsel or whatever may come my way and ...voila, it did!

    Cheers, Sue

  5. Hi All,

It's time for me to upgrade my phone (droid razor max, really like it) and computers (lenovo think pad & a dell...love the lenovo...hate the dell). I'm wondering if folks have opinions about the droids vs the iphones for kayaking apps and usage. I'm thinking about the new Surface as a tablet/computer option and ditch the dell...I'm also thinking about going to the dark side and switching all... to iphone, ipad and mac (possibly air). Thoughts?

    Thanks and Cheers, Sue

  6. I wear my silk long johns under my dry suit when it gets too warm for fleece or wool...so it extends the time I can comfortably wear the dry suit during that transition time when the water is still cold, but the air is increasingly warm. I always wore silk long johns under my down hill ski wear when I used to ski and there was some additional insulating factor...but that was in dry (other than sweat) conditions. Silk can tear easily, so stress on underarm and other areas of friction can cause seams to pull or tear away at the seams. Sue Hriciga

  7. Hi Peter and All,

I am interested, but could not arrive until Friday pm and would have to leave late afternoon on Sunday. Is there anyone else coming that would have the same restrictions? I may be able to get Monday off from work so I could have that extra day or possibly the Friday instead.

Looking forward to hearing from other folks,

    Sue

  8. Hey Folks,

I'm looking to buy binoculars and like this Nikon 7x50 OceanPro, (optional with or without a compass). I thought I remembered a message board binocular discussion from a year or two ago, but could not find it with a search.

Does anyone have experience with these binoculars or have recommendations for binoculars to be used as part of a navigation kit?

    Thanks,

    Sue Hriciga

  9. We Level 2+ paddlers will be paddling over to Salem Willows and back, weather permitting. We will follow the western shore of Marblehead harbor and round the point then make the crossing to just north of the power plant, then follow the shore again to the landing at The Willows. The trip length is about 8 nm, and we will time it to be back in plenty of time for the fabulous NSPN post-paddle pig-out.

    Further details to follow.

Please respond here if you are interested in joining us.

    Cheers,

    Rob
