I can’t paddle on Monday, but I would join a group going out to eat on Tuesday.

Unfortunately I’m not able to paddle on either Monday or Wednesday. Based on weather forecast I’m still interested in paddling on Tuesday,  however it would need to be a scaled down trip in a more sheltered area. If all else fails I would be interested in a non-paddling pppo.

just my $0.02.

I'd be up for a 10 + mile excursion, however, like others already mentioned, subject to conditions.

Name some paddling locations you expect to visit in 2019 or 2020 for which you don't already own a chart:

I already have charts for most of the New England coast. Although I don't have any specific plans, eastern Canada is on my wish list and I do not yet have any charts.

If you DO own some charts, how do prefer to get them? (buy online, marine supply store, print them myself...):

I prefer to purchase charts at a marine store, however due to limited selection I do buy most of my charts online. I also print my own and laminate to carry on deck.

If you were to BUY a chart, would you choose a $25 waterproof chart or an identical $10 paper chart?

I always prefer waterproof charts.

How much would you be willing to pay to BORROW a waterproof chart that you didn't have for the duration of an NSPN trip? ($0 is a valid answer):

$5 is not unreasonable to borrow a chart, but I prefer to have my own. I always want a chart available for trip planning.

Which of the following do you NOT currently own? waterproof chart case, deck compass, handheld compass, marine radio, tow belt, helmet:

I own them all.

Prudence, another fabulous trip report from another fabulous trip. Thanks for taking the time to share this experience with us. 

Monday, July 9 - Odiorne Point to Rye Harbor, back to Odiorne

Conditions - Air temps mid 80s, light breeze WSW 5 - 10 becoming S 5 - 10 afternoon,
1 foot swell with a light chop in the morning, swell increasing to around 2 feet with light chop afternoon.

Dave, with his new to him, Romany Classic, Sue, and I met at Odiorne Point around 9:15am. After sorting out boats and gear we were ready and on the water on schedule for our 10:00 launch. 

I think Sue caught the kayaking bug.

We paddled out through Little Harbor and out the breakwater, on an outgoing tide, where we were met with a mild 1 foot swell and gentle chop. Paddling along the NH coast we all enjoyed the mild conditions, and the scenery.

Sue appears to be enjoying the mild conditions.

We stopped at Rye Harbor for a light lunch, then it was back on the water for the return to Odiorne. After lunch the swell picked up to around 2 feet, again with just a mild chop. With the breeze to our back and a gentle swell the return trip was quick and pleasant, everyone enjoying the conditions. 

We arrived back at Oriorne shortly after low tide, to a muddy landing, which I’m sure most local paddlers are all too familiar with. Overall a very pleasant day. Thanks to Dave and Sue for joining me and helping to make this a fun day.

Join me for a leisure paddle along the NH coast. Launch at 10:00am from Odiorne Point, Route 1A in Rye, NH. From there we will paddle out through Little Harbor and head down the NH coast, stopping at Rye Harbor for lunch. At Rye Harbor there are a few options to purchase lunch, or you can chose to bring your own. Return to Odiorne Point after lunch. Expect to be off the water around 3:30 - 4:00pm.

HT - 8:00am       LT - 2:00pm

This trip is open to all NSPN members of all skill levels, including those who are new to sea kayaking.  Along with getting out on the water and having fun, this trip will be designed to be another opportunity for new sea kayakers to enjoy an ocean experience. Minimum requirements to join this trip are a sea kayak, 14 feet or longer, with bulkheads, pfd, proper immersion clothing for 60 degree ocean water. You should be comfortable doing a wet exit and assisted reentry. If you need assistance with any of the required gear please feel free to contact me.

This trip is dependent on conditions and if conditions appear to be beyond the skill level of the group I will alter the plan accordingly. Please post below to indicate your interest in joining or if you have any questions. 

As with all NSPN trips, trip waivers are necessary for all participants. I will have a few copies available to sign prior to launch. Please plan your arrival time to be ready for a 10:00am launch.

Thanks for organizing a great trip Joe. It was nice to see a few paddlers I haven't paddled with in a long time and also great to meet some new NSPN members. Of course being out on the water and beating the heat was an added bonus. Hope to paddle with everyone soon.

Unfortunately I must back out of the NH practice session tonight. Not sure if others were planning to make it or not. For those who do decide to go, have fun and be safe.

Tomorrow will be the final NH practice session. The weather looks good and it looks like we will have summer time air temps tomorrow. HT is 4:05pm. Daylight does fade rather early this time of year, so plan to be off the water by 7:00. I am planning to launch around 4:30. For anyone arriving a little later, paddle out into Little Harbor and look for the kayaks. I'll also monitor VHF 72. Hope to see a few other there. 

Prudence, thank you for sharing another great trip report. I wish I could have been there. Maybe nest year. Looking forward to reading about your next adventure.

New Hampshire salt water practice session tomorrow at 5:00. The weather forecast looks nice, warm and sunny.  HT 4:18pm. I plan to arrive around 4:30 for a 5:00 launch. Hope to see a few others there.

Another NH practice session coming up on Tuesday, 8/29. HT 5:43pm, weather looks good. As usual I plan to be at Odiorne by 4:30, and on the water by 5:00. For those who want to attend but cannot make it for a 5:00 launch, just paddle out into Little Harbor and look for the group of kayaks. I'll also monitor VHF channel 72 just in case we wander off a bit.
