  1. Tonights Fireworks Paddle launch location has been moved to Rt. 1A at Seabrook Harbor parking lot. We'll still meet at 8pm. The original launch site on North Beach is a mess with lots of seaweed and the surf & swells, although not as big as yesterday, still may be a bit intimidating for some for paddling at night. See the link below for map and directions to the Seabrook Harbor launch location. Also if you plan to join us and want to have dinner on the deck at Top of The Harbor on the opposite side of the launch site and where Seacoast Kayak was, reply and let me know. I can be there anytime and was thinking those who wanted to have dinner prior could meet at 6:30pm at Top of The Harbor. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&...i=lmc:panoramio Forecast for Coastal Rockingham, New Hampshire Dated: 1211 PM EDT WED JUL 16 2008 Rest Of Today... Sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. South winds around 10 mph. Tonight... Partly cloudy. Lows around 60. Light and variable winds. Neil
  2. I've made reservations at Old Quarry campground group site # 9 over Labor Day weekend arriving August 29th and departing Sept. 1. "3 nights". Cost is $18.19 per person per night including ME 7% tax or $54.57 for 3 nights per person including tax based on 12 people on the site. Currently I have 7 people confirmed and a couple maybes. If you think you might like to join us please reply ASAP. There may be more room at other sites if this site fills but you'll have to call Old Quarry yourself. See the link below for Old Quarry and the link for the campground map http://oldquarry.com/ Click on Campground Map http://oldquarry.com/shop/campground_oq.php If you haven't sea kayaked in the Stonington / Deer Isle Archipelago area I can tell you it is a wonderful place to paddle with many islands to stop at. For those who've been to Stonington already this season wouldn't you like to return http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...mp;t=h&z=12 Neil
  3. Date: Saturday July 26, 2008 Time: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm Location: Bicentennial Park Hampton, NH This is an open ocean paddle therefore you must be in a sea kayak or sit-on-top. If using a sea kayak, a sprayskirt is highly recommended and your skill level should be level 2 or better. A life vest PFD is mandatory as well as other appropriate safety gear such as pump, paddle float etc.. The launch site is in a protected cove and usually very calm. Outside the cove you could experience some breakers and swells depending on the wind conditions. North Beach is a prime surf area so those who want to play in the surf can have some fun in the late afternoon. Those who don't you can paddle in relative safe mild surf in the cove. This is a great location for developing various skills depending on conditions. There are opportunities for surf play, rock gardening etc. Low Tide is mid-day "noon" so the day will increase in excitement as the tide comes in in the afternoon. There is a nice beach at the launch site so feel free to bring a beach chair and relax if you want. If conditions are good we can paddle over to Plaice Cove and stop at the Beach Plum for Ice Cream then head up along the coast towards Jeness Beach in North Hampton or Rye Harbor. Reply if you are interested in attending this event. The PPPO will be at my place on North Beach where we'll have a pot luck BBQ. Directions: From Rt. 95 North or South Take Exit 2 Hampton NH Exit then stay left onto Route 101 East. Then take first exit Rt.27 East "Exeter Road" towards Hampton. You will come to a set of lights with Old Salt Restaurant on left. Continue straight through intersection onto High Street. Follow High Street till you get to the Ocean. The Bicentennial Park is directly in front of you. Turn left at lights and launch site is on right at North end of park. There is parking across the street once you unload your boat. See map link below fro more detailed directions from your location http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...mp;t=h&z=13 Neil
  4. Hampton Beach NH Fireworks Paddle Date: Wednesday July 16, 2008 Time: 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm Location: Bicentennial Park, Rt. 1A North Beach Hampton This night-time paddle into the ocean has certain requirements: You must be paddling a sea kayak or sit-on-top, have a white light on your boat that can be seen for two miles, and have skills to be out in the ocean. Please dress appropriately for the water temps. Your kayak light must be a white light viewable from 360 degrees, you must wear a life vest PFD, have a bilge pump, whistle, paddle float etc.. The parking lot for Bicentennial Park is across the street from Cinnamon Rainbows Surf Shop on Rt 1A Hampton. "North End of the Seawall" There are picnic tables if you want to have a picnic dinner before launching but arrive earlier if you do. The Bicentenial Park is directly in front of you. Turn left at lights and launch site is on right at North end of park. There is parking across the street once you unload your boat. See map link below fro more detailed directions from your location http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...mp;t=h&z=13 If conditions are rough offshore we'll change the launch site and watch the fireworks from inside of Hampton Harbor. Please be sure to watch for this change in this listing on Wednesday afternoon as directions to launch site will change as well. Please reply if you think you may join us. Neil
  5. I have an Ocean Paddle planned for Saturday July 26th with Seacoast Kayakers meeting at 11am at the Bicentenial Park Hampton's North Beach just down the road from my home. This is a great spot for getting out on the Ocean as it's a protected cove good for practicing but on the outer reaches of the cove there are usually breakers and if the wind is right some swells. There is also a great opportunity for rock gardening. And you can paddle over to Plaice Cove for an Ice Cream at the Beach Plum in North Hampton I'll post the event on the NSPN trips page. Also we're doing a Wednesday paddle to view the Fireworks off of Hampton Beach this Wednesday July 16th meeting at 8pm. Looks like a clear night with full moon and light winds. This is always a fun event but a late night for those not in the NH Seacoast Area. I'll add that event as well. Same launch location as above. Neil
  6. Here is a birds eye view of the area for those who want to see the rocks and islands they paddled near or around New Castle on Sunday.
  7. For those of us who stayed on the inside we had a fun time in protected waters but still had some currents and wind to play in. Thanks to Gillian and Suz for providing some fun paddling skills practice as well as rolling and capsize recovery. A BIG thanks to Rick for organizing the event and all of those who attended and shared their knowledge and answered questions. I know I returned home with some knew knowledge and skills especially with CAM and beach briefing. Neil
  8. Actually the product looks pretty good in my opinion if someone didn't want to install a rack on their vehicle. Although a little pricey at approx $100 US it's still a lot less than a Thule or Yakima rack system. Malone is now distributing them as well see the link below. http://www.maloneautoracks.com/overview.ht...atableRoofRacks Kittery Trading Post and Cabela's are also listed as distributors if anyone wanted to check them out. Neil
  9. Fortunately Little Harbor as well as Sagamore Creek area are not affected too much by Southerly winds. Paddling out of Little Harbor towards Rye Harbor could pose an exciting chalenge for some. There is a nice protected area in the Lee of Leachs, Pest & Goat or past Wentworth Coolidge and around the back of Lady Isle to play in calmer waters. Since the tide will be high there are plenty of options in the area. Neil
  10. Interesting device! Probably could be used for sea wings as well. I especially enjoyed the beauty & the geek video demo clip. Thank goodness for mini-skirts and windy days http://www.handirackuk.com/viewthe.asp
  11. David, If you decided to attend on Sunday and rent from Portsmouth Kayak it's a very short paddle down the Sagamore Creek then take a right under the bridge into Little Harbor and keep right towards Odiorne "Seavey Creek". You'll see the wooden bridge with everyones cars/kayaks . Check out the map Carl posted on the trips message board. Or just ask at Portsmouth Kayak. http://www.nspn.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=4952 http://www.carlsbits.com/charts/portsharbor1.pdf Neil
  12. Ok kids it's time to learn how to be a Storm Spotter The web site below although tailored to the younger generation has some useful info. http://www.boatsafe.com/kids/weather1.htm
  13. If you don't mind driving to the Portsmouth NH area then at Portsmouth Kayak you can rent sea-kayaks and there are lots of level 2-3 opportunities in the area in and around Little Harbor and Odiorne State Park on the Ocean side. See the link below... http://www.portsmouthkayak.com/ Neil
  14. Here's another good video showing a Sprint kayaker in training. Notice the torso rotation as well as the arm extension and leg work. Neil
  15. Has anyone seen or heard of anyone using this tow line/belt/bag product from North Water? It looked pretty good and seemed to have everything needed in a tow line & bag/belt combo. http://www.northwater.com/html/seatec_line.html I'm looking to upgrade my basic tow line/bag for a belt type and would like some suggestions. I've seen the Kokatat, NRS and Valley tow belts as well. Neil
  16. Hi Kevin, The booth was closed at the boat ramp last weekend. If it's open it's $5 to Launch. There is free parking and launching across the woodden bridge on the west side of the creek but you have to be cautious of the tides. Another great launch spot in Little Harbor is at Fort Stark in Newcastle. You can see it across the harbor from Odiorne. Nice parking lot and great beach for launching. From Rt.1A Take Rt. 1B to Newcastle turn right onto Wild Rose Lane just past the Wentworth By the Sea Hotel. If you get to Newcastle Commons park you've gone just a tad too far. http://www.nhstateparks.com/fortstark.html Google Map Link below http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...021715&z=15 I may end up joining you folks as I live in Hampton Neil
