  1. I'd be interested. North shore is fine with me.
  2. Thanks Brian. The picture is of Judy Whipple heading toward Hockamock Head lighthouse on Swan Island (If I remember correctly). The rest of the pics can be see here: http://picasaweb.google.com/cbmabon/MITAFu...feat=directlink
  3. Count me in! It's been far too long since I've gotten a paddle wet...
  4. I've got a Pintail that I haven't used in a few years that your welcome to try out. We seem to live close, so you could pick it up and take it with you to the ocean. I'd go with you, but I don't get many weekends off...
  5. Link to pics of the day: http://picasaweb.google.com/cbmabon/IslesO...feat=directlink We couldn't have asked for a better day on the water. Sunny, light winds, following (well, quartering) seas on the way back. Great company. Thanks guys!
  6. I'm free Tuesday. So you can commit me
  7. Nice wave in that last pic Doug! Did the boardies come by boat?
  8. Schedule just came out, I can only do Wednesday.
  9. QUOTE(Kevin B @ Aug 14 2009, 08:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hmm, looks like this trip might take place twice:) It might first happen Monday if others can commit to that day and then again the next week. Post or send an email to commit to either trip:) I may be able to do the week of the 24th.
  10. I was listening to an interview with Nigel Dennis on Seakayakroutes.com and he mentioned a small bit of history about the Pintail. Unfortunately, no dates where mentioned. When Nigel first opened the centre, he was using Valley kayaks and, after some time, decided that he wanted a "school boat". He spoke with the owner of Valley (Frank Goodman?) about making some changes to the Anas Acuta. Frank agreed and the Pintail was born. Nigel used the Pintail for a while, then he decided he wanted to build his own boats. So, he spoke with Mike Webb (now with Rockpool Kayaks) who had a shed at the centre where he made boards for windsurfing. There he started making Nigels new kayak - the Romany. It was interesting hearing this since my ca. 1996 Romany Explorer has a sticker on the inside stating that it was made by Webb. I know it doesn't answer your original question, but I found this bit of kayak history interesting.
  11. Jason, if you still need a forth person, sign me up.
  12. Great writeup Scott. You captured the day perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of trash on the islands. Here's some pics of the day: here
  13. Scott Camlin and I are planning a visit to the clubs adopted islands Bangs and Crow. This will be a day trip (not camping). Probably be a level 3 - 4+ depending on conditions. We'll put in at Cousins Island (on the left after the causeway) at 10:00am (butts in boat). The plan is to have a beach briefing then head North of Cousins and Chebeague then down to Crow and Bangs, as a group. We will explore the islands and clean up what we can and possibly clear some small brush from an overgrown campsite. Depending on the time and conditions maybe we'll head NE to Whaleboat Is. and check that out. If you would like to join us please RSVP to Scott Camlin at: SCamlinATrestructassocDOTcom
  14. Sorry folks but we are going to have to cancel this one. The tides and the weather just aren't cooperating...
  15. We are keeping a close eye on the weather forcast for this trip. So far the forcast doesn't look good, but forcasts are often wrong and this one has been changing daily. The biggest problem with the area is it's shallow and much of the sheltered area behind the islands dries out at low tide (~3:30pm on Saturday). We will probably have to make the call Friday once we get a better idea of the weather.
  16. Please join us for the first in a series of paddles to some of the islands along the Maine Island Trail. This will be a level 2+ paddle among the islands located at Cape Porpoise, Kennebunkport. You can join us for just a day paddle on Saturday, or join us while we camp overnight at one of the islands Saturday night and paddle back on Sunday. Cape Porpoise is a great, scenic place to paddle that offers protected water on the inside of the islands and more exposed waters on the outside of the islands. This paddle will be a great introduction to MITA islands and is appropriate for both new and experienced kayak campers. Scott Camlin, long time member of NSPN and member of the MITA Board of Trustees, will be there representing MITA for those wishing to learn more about MITA. While we recommend MITA membership, you don't have to be a current member of MITA to join us if you just want to check out what MITA is all about. We will post more details about the trip soon.

  18. I've got a 50/50 chance of being able to make it.
  19. The LLBean outlet in Nashua, NH had several Kokatat drysuits for decent prices (forgot how much), but worth a call if your looking for one.
  20. Just a reminder that the Paddling Opportunities Along the Maine Coast presentation by Dave Mention, the Trail Director for MITA, is tomorrow night at the Gould Barn at 6:30. See Betty Ann's post above for more info, or click here. Dave's a great guy and very knowledgable about the Maine coastline. If you are looking for new places to paddle or are planning a kayak trip along the trail, Dave is the guy to talk to. He's got alot of great ideas and loves sharing his knowledge about the islands. We will have MITA membership packages available, including the updated 2009 Guide book. So, if you are a member of NSPN you can take advantage of the reduced membership rates and get your guidbook right away!
  21. I checked with the Dave Mention about Bangs Island being closed at nesting season and it appears to be open, here's his reply: "No eagles on Bangs, I don't know that there ever was an eagle there. It used to have nesting eiders but they've been gone for some time. If you do a clean up (and find alot) leave filled trash bags WELL UP on the shore out of the way and let us know. We'll be out with the Lund and can take it off. Have fun, and thanks! Dave" I realize that time and conditions will dictate whether you guys can visit these islands, I just wanted to let you know that the option is there. I wish I could go, but I have to work...
  22. We are ready to sign people up! The instructions can be found in the NSPN Business forum. (Only paid members can see the forum). This is a great opportunity for those who want to try new areas, but are not sure where to go. Plus we are helping a great organization who promotes access to islands that would normally be off limits.
