As a trip participant I can vouch for the great conditions and companionship. Warren and Pru did a great job. The pre-trip materials were just right. It was enough to know what questions to ask and to generate the on-line conversations that would fill in the gaps. Conversations during the trip added much to my camping knowledge. The one night format is just right for a "new to" type trip. it simplifies the planning and reduces the pressure or concern about having everything "perfect". So it won't interfere with the fun.
The terrific trip report and following discussion is an extra learning bonus.
See you all on the Water

Dear Paddlers
After many years I have located and committed to some paddling in Italy in mid to late September. The main trip is in Elba for 6 days Sept 16-22 paddling around the island and camping on beaches overnight. boats, etc tents,.. all furnished . Food is bought locally as a group. The Outfitters have a great reputation and the group will be both US and European paddlers.More info at:Contact :Gaudenzio Coltelli <info@seakayakitaly.itIf one week is too short for a round trip to Europe (or your partner wants to do more touring while you paddle)I have contacted another well respected outfitter in nearby Sardinia who will run another 5 day paddling trip along the coast of Sardinia.September 9-14This paddle is a little more comfortable in that you stay at the same hotel and the outfitter will take the group, the guide and the equipment to sequential put ins and pick the group at the take out and back to the hotel.Claudio Desiati

_________________________________________________________Group sizes are 5 to 6 peopleThere is one day of travel between Sardinia and Elba (two ferries) and a day of rest between the excursions. Still reasonable flights via Marseilles or Rome.It sounds great and other american groups that have used these outfitters have given them high marks.
Disclaimer. I have no financial interest or benefit in whether you go or not. My only interest is in sharing the opportunity and experience with my fellow paddlers and building a good paddling group. You may contact me or any of the outfitters directly. If you would like to reduce costs and share a room the first week that is a possibility. All the bestPablo D. deTorresQuincy, MA -

A short one out of winthrop sounds OK. prefer later morning start say 10, so I can avoid the rush hour traffic through Boston.
Perhaps winthrop to Georges and back is a good distance.

Hi Al
Maritime center is a kind name for the Quincy police maritime unit building and public boat ramp on Bay View Road adjacent to the Quincy yacht club
137 Bayview Road
Quincy, MA 02169. there is a concrete ramp, about 8 parking spaces next to it and a large paved lot 20 yards away with plenty of room to include boat trailers. I checked with the police unit and the large lot has no resident restrictions and is open for overnight parking. A good place if you are camping on the Islands.
It sometimes has a working outdoor shower.
there is a concrete ramp but a small gravelly/sand area to the left side if you prefer to launch from that surface.
It's busy on summer weekends but not impossible. Occasionally in the summer weekends a lobster boat will tie up at the adjacent dock and sell live lobsters
Regards
