  1. Yes, Leong--channel 72-- Looks like a "go" for tomorrow--forecast gets better as the day progresses. Les
  2. Hi David, Good questions--two pods is optimal--parking at the HS is more realistic than at greasy pole-- and either paddling through the cut for the brave at heart or doing a 10 minute walk back to the boat--there is a short cut for the walk--I prefer the walk myself--there should be no problem with parking at the HS-- We could hug the coast out of the way from the boat traffic and watch the sights as we pass dog bar--we can decide at the beach briefing which is the safest route given the boat traffic. Les
  3. Great group of paddlers going on this trip--if a couple more want to jump in that would be fine--just post here. It looks like Earl is calming down somewhat for Sunday. I will post no later than 9:00 PM Saturday either way. Thank you for the maps and the directions. L
  4. Hi Prudence, I call Walden before I make the effort to see if it is closed and when they will open again. I have had no trouble at 5 even on hot days like today. A word of caution, if they state they are going to open again at a certain time--get there at that time. I understand your reluctance given today's temp. Les
  5. The tide goddess is with us on Sunday to do a circumnavigation on Cape Ann. The routine is unload at Pavilion Beach in G. Harbor then move car to G High School if you do not want to go through the cut. Or park your car at the high school in the A.M. go through the cut and meet for beach briefing at 10:15 am. Be ready to launch at 10:30 am. For those who do not want to do the whole trip, you can meet up with us along the way--we will be on channel 72. Another option is to drive tandem to Lanes Cove--leave one car and meet us at the P beach at 10:15 for briefing then leave us when we hit Lanes. I am hoping for a southerly wind which will make this trip easier. The plan: Paddle to Thatchers--rockplay along the way--stop at Thatchers or Milk to stretch legs--go behind Thatchers for rockplay--then head to Lanes or lighthouse for lunch--then to river to high school take-out. This trip is a L3+ given the length (20 miles+) and limited to 10 people. Not a racing pace but not a slow pace. If you have not done distance paddling (at least 15+ miles) the whole trip is probably not for you. There is the option of meeting up at different points along the way. Sunday is a good day for tides and less traffic but will cancel by Saturday evening if conditions are too jumpy. Please post here or send me a message if interested. I am not a leader, just initiator. Les aka swearing ferret
  6. This Wednesday join a motley crew of kayakers for a skill session at Walden. All welcome, Arriving between 5 and 5:30 pm--we paddle to the farthest end of the pond and practice until they call us out, usually around 7:30 pm. After 5:00: free admission. If there is rain, this practice session is cancelled.
  7. Thanks Sir Christopher for posting yet another moonlight paddle. Although this trip was longer, and the moon was not as clear, it was still a joy--the miracle and wonder-of-it-all night paddle. Les aka swearing ferret
  8. All welcome, Arriving between 5 and 5:30 pm--we paddle to the farthest end of the pond and practice until they call us out, usually around 7:30 pm. After 5:00: free admission. If there is rain, this practice session is cancelled. Les
  9. Hi and welcome, A group of us have been meeting Wednesday at Walden Pond. People arrive after 5 p.m. (free after 5) and practice until around 7:15 p.m. We practice rolling, sculling, rescues, and stupid kayak tricks (standing up in your kayak's cockpit or kissing the bow of your boat). It is fun, instructive and you get help with improving your skills. So join us if you can. Wednesday works best for most of us who show up. The Walden gang, Peter, Phil, Lorrie, Sid, me and whoever else shows up.

  14. Three of us did the race --Leon, Lisa and myself--yesterday along with many others-- A fun race (7 miles, more or less) with lots of bends--never did a river race before--different than ocean racing. Star paddlers Leon and Lisa did a stellar job of leading the pack--and for me, (not training this year), did okay-- Recommend this race to others who want to test river racing--Les

  21. Glenn -- a master of the the understated--kept asking him what happened at the PPPO--"rogue wave, had to roll"--never once mentioned how long he was underwater--what a pair of lungs you got, Glenn--admirable-- Les
