Automatic radio check

Seatow (the commercial non-emergency coastal towing service) has a free automatic radio check. Info here:

You do a radio check on one of the channels they monitor (details in the link) and it automatically responds with a copy of your sent message. I haven't given it a try yet but thought others might be interested.

Maybe it is a seasonal service and not yet on, but I tried this at Odiorne today and heard nothing. A bit disconcerting just before launching for a solo paddle.

BTW, a wonderous day to be on the water. A little fog, a little sun, a little foam, more than a little solitude, and more than little long period swell smacking the coast.

I would have <thought> it more reliable to call USCG and ask them for their working channel -- then call for R/T check on that channel?

Tried again yesterday while near CG station at Fort Point and turns out the service is working in Portsmouth. They are located NW of the I95 bridge so bit of a haul for handheld from Odiorne.
