the second workshop is this tomorrow: Sunday, April 29th

2012 NSPN CAM Workshops

Program Description

For the 2012 season, NSPN will offer a series of 4 CAM workshops . As in past years, the workshops will be led by experienced club members who are volunteering to share what they have learned. Our goal is to help club members build the skills and knowledge they need to be active participants in club trips. While we discuss the Common Adventure Model (CAM) for club trips, the principles and practices we cover apply to all trips on the water.

The series includes two days of class room workshops in April and two days of on-water skill building in May and June. See the attached document for details of the full workshop program.

The workshops are fun, and its great to get the club together to share paddling knowledge, and skills.

classroom workshops:

Sunday April 22: Parker river Visitor center, Newburyport, MA

10AM to 3PM

Sunday April 29th: Parker river Visitor Center, Newburyport, MA

10AM to 3PM

Sunday June 3rd.

Just a reminder that we still have openings for the class room sessions on April 22 and April 29.

These workshops are for paddlers at all levels: people just starting to paddle and people who can paddle, but want to brush up on how to plan before going out. It is especially targeted at participating in club trips.

In the April 22 class, we'll cover weather forecasts, tides and currents, how to predict conditions, route planning and reading nautical charts. In the April 29 class, we'll cover the CAM concept (Common Adventure Model) that the club uses, plus what happens on club trips: beach briefings, launching and landing, traveling on the water, plus dealing with group issues and emergencies.

Classes are 10 AM to 3 PM.

To sign up and get more details, please RSVP to scamlin at restructassoc dot com

Presenters who are knowledgeable, skilled and "been there". Provides what anyone needs to plan and undertake safe journeys on the ocean. Free.

Given the incredible value of these workshops on every level, hard to believe there is still room.

And it will likely be a crummy weather day on Sunday.

Are these pot luck like last year - can I bring something?

Cathy,

Sorry, we neglected to mention food in any of our postings. Food is not being provided, so bringing something like last time would be just great!
