Phil Allen
I think Kevin's got this pump. I've seen either Ben Lawry or John Carmody use it as well. Really nice if you have to put an incapacitated person back in a boat using the scoop rescue. No messing around pumping and trying to support the boat. Does rely on D-cell batteries though. brambor
Nice; and the price is right too. Just think of it as a good piece of equipment to have in the boat when you are really going somewhere. For day trips without any advanced water you could just leave the pump at home. But for weekend camping trips, solo trips on open water, rock gardening trips, tide race trips... it might be nice to have. It looks like it could fit behind the seat and the hose looks thin enough to poke through the sprayskirt bungee without making the skirt pop off. I think Kevin's got this pump. To keep all this in perspective: the reenter- and- roll is really only needed when one is alone or otherwise without the assistance of other paddlers. As the T- rescue is faster and ends with an empty cockpit, it is the preferred rescue method. In other words, one should never elect to reenter and roll if others are available for a safe T rescue; perhaps more time in the water, definitely more time pumping. A T-rescue is so much faster to complete, that when pumping is needed it is actually worth considering to exit ones boat again and to do a T-rescue instead of pumping out a cockpit wile rafted up . So, thinking of the reenter and roll as a solo operation from start to finish : since the inevitable pumping must then be done without assistance, ( not ideal in whatever setting got you capsized and unable to roll in the first place), whatever gets the pump job done fast, (including an electric pump) is legitimate and an electric pump is then a gear item that becomes more significant when paddling alone.
