Good thought... Shall we start posting on trips if we are willing to lead a trip?

Hoping that in the spirit of the recent CAM workshops, we can get many people willing to lead small groups.

Count me in for that - I am willing to lead either a level 2 or level 3 paddle - wherever there is more need. I will limit my group to 6 people including myself.

I would be glad to also manage a group of up to 7 others (L2, L3 or L4).

I would not mind leading an L2 or 3 paddle, hugging the rocks in most cases (8-12 miles) for some rock play at moderate + pace. I would also be open to assist an L4.

I'm also glad to help manage a group at any level.

I will definitely be there and willing to help with a lower level group. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I have to be back to the beach around 3 PM since we are celebrating wife's birthday at Fenway. I will be late for the 4:05 game but I wanted to do both. So, I will latch onto a group as we see what the timing looks like.

Al

PS. Should I put together a paddle from Riverside up the Charles to Fenway and use the NSPN helicopter to airlift the group back to Riverside?

Just a thought... In prior Solstice paddles, all the groups convened at the same place for lunch. It would be nice to do the same this year too. I just can't remember which island we landed/lunched on. I have not done a Solstice paddle for about 8 years due to working an event at LLBean which due to tides is being held this weekend instead of the same weekend.

Of course meeting at the same place for lunch presented some challenges:

large group/one place

how to get your group together when time to leave

leaving with the group you arrived with

PS - Peter Brady requested that I lead a level 3 so 3 is what I will be initiating when it comes time to post the details.

I have already volunteered to lead a 2+ trip to Salem Willows and back. Galen Carey has offered to help with this trip. Last year we had ~15 boats in our fleet, so maybe this year we can split into a couple smaller groups.

There may be more people this year (Connyak, Wild Turkey folks will be coming too) than in the past and theres a groundswell of initiative to keep paddling groups small (8 seems the magic number)

So we'll need a total of 12-15 paddlers (4 to 5 per group) on Safety: that means: paddlers prepared to become group leader if a trip is too large and needs to split into smaller groups , and also to tow or escort other paddlers back to the launch should the need arise.

So far, we have Peter B, Galen Carey , Jason Kates , Bill Gwynn, Bob Levine, and Doug Mogill, and Al Coons available for any of the 3 paddles. (not counting initiators)

.

Rob Hazard has said he'll initiate/lead the level 2+ trip:

Peter B (thats me) and Galen will be on safety

Brian Wells has said he'd initiate/lead the level 2 trip

(looks like Al Coons would fit in here? )

Suzanne Hutchinson has said she'll initiate/lead the L3 trip

Bill will be on safety

(I can switch to L2 if needed.)

Jason Kates, Doug Mogill and Bob Levine are available. Pick a group!

So that's seven : we'll we'll need another 5 to 8 people on Safety to split up between groups, especially L2.

I would be glad to help Brian on the Level 2. Just remember, I will have to head back if it looks as if we will not reach the put-in by 3 PM.

Al ,

Great! that should be fine as 3PM-ish is the general return time for all paddles, so boats & stuff can be squared away and culinary extravaganza (pot luck) may commence!

Hi Al;

Would love the help! I have been talking to several beginners that attended your workshop and then subsequently went to the pool session. So you might recognize some, and they will you.

I notice others in this thread also saying they can help; we do need to determine which levels different people will be on, so if someone wants to join L2 great!
