Gcosloy
Seven year old girl lost her life yesterday in Arcadia National Park, ME after being swept out to sea by a rogue wave in the aftermath of Bill. The TV news indicated that a helicopter was brought in to the area 2 hours into the rescue from Cape Cod. Perhaps someone can explain why the nearest helicopter available for a rescue at sea in the Northeast is limited to Cape Cod? http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/...-is-identified/
Gcosloy
Thanks Carl. I wasn't implying that the outcome would have been different only surprised at the distance involved and the length of time involved. Your answer makes perfect sense if not reassuring. JohnHuth
A minor quibble: the park is called "Acadia", not "Arcadia" - mostly I raise the point because I've seen this common misspelling very often. In any case it's tragic. The rip tides and strange waves that get generated by hurricanes have to be given due respect. Just another sad reminder.
