The frigid air our soul to test.

We have thought of pushing forth

Not to travel South or West

but to the ocean to our North

Not Southward to warmer sea and air.

where lesser paddlers go

but to the land of cold we dare

to the land of ice and snow

though the details not worked out

we will thus communicate

All interested parties give a shout

and we'll set the time and date.

Would depend upon the time and location, but interested. Northerly. Are you thinking Cape Porpoise? Portland? Mere Point? Harpswell? Port Clyde? Stonington? Jonesport? Bay of Fundy?

Day paddle or camping?

Oh Ross, you handsome young fella

I’ve been meaning to call up and tell’ya

If winds aren’t too fierce

Let’s carpool to Pierce

You, me, and your yella Capella

Others may well join the fray

Amid rocks we may linger and play

With Ed, Jon and Laura?

We’ll see fauna and flora

And have just a marvelous day

Landlubbing? A thing of the past

Our boats we will paddle quite fast

On a trip around Gerrish

Its unlikely we’ll perish

With the boats, kit ,and skill we’ve amassed

I might be interested in a paddle from Pierce on Sunday...as long as I'm not going to be required to write a poem.

Come on Sal don't be shy

ryme a few words just give it a try

So if the weathers not fierce

we'll all meet at pierce

back in the saddle

for a full day's paddle

then drink a toast

our exploits we'll boast

we decided the where but what of the when

how about we assemble this Sunday at ten

It's not that I'm shy..I say with a sigh

It's not that I won't give it a try

It's not some lack of pluck

It's simply that...

If I had to rely on clever rhyme to make myself a buck

I'd be so totally out of luck.

In any case...10AM Sunday at Peirce sounds good to me. I'm planning on being there.

Sunday looks good for me

but simply can't launch until after my morning tea

I'll follow the board

then follow the hoard

to get back in the saddle

for a full day's paddle

as my skills are getting rusty

and my drysuit is dusty

I'll join for the toast

but unlikely to boast

Being prosaic as well as timid, I shall use prose.

Does not Cape Porpoise beckon?

Have not been on salt since forever so really no matter to me, but still...variety...spice.

Oh, timid...nevermind.

Being Northward, with deep morning chill and covered with snow, eleven is better for me.

Gerry is the expert on current and river, but if not befuddled I believe slack near Pierce will be around 1100, max flood 1400 and slack at Little harbor at 0950 and max flood at 1230.

What is estimated time to be off the water?

Route to be selected at launch?

This winter I've had to use snowshoes myself to carry my boat to my truck. I wonder what the neighbors think?

well seems as if perhaps we'll depart at eleven

later than ten better than seven

thats all right with me

and plenty of time for Cathy's morning tea

the route we could choose when we arrive

just as long as we're back by five

sunset is around 5:15ish

maybe paddle around Garrish?

or just play amongst the rocks

It'll be cold, so wear warm socks

wear a helmet to protect your head

oh and Pete, I'll be in my kayak that is red

SUN

NW WINDS 15 TO 20 KT...

DIMINISHING TO 10 TO 15 KT IN THE AFTERNOON.

SEAS 2 TO 4 FT.

(we'll keep our eyes on Sundays forecast complete)

today there is a gale warning

We can decide tonight or in the morning

This weekends been cold and windy so far

if it continues I may stay home and play my guitar

I will need to know no later than 9AM Sunday as that is when I will be leaving.

Recent forecast suggests windier and colder than originally forecast.

So what is new?

Ross:

I'm not going to paddle today. I had strained a muscle in my left shoulder friday installing a heavy hanging light. I felt a little better yesterday and thought I would be fine today, but I'm no better than yesterday. I don't think I could launch from Pierce and circumnavigate Gerrish without aggravating it more. Winter is no time to be a liability to the group. Hope to join you next time. The weather looks perfect for you.
