Long distance paddling

Yesterday I was one of ten on the paddle from Manchester by the Sea to Gloucester and back. It was an excellent paddle with a very cohesive group. At out lunch break some of the conversation revolved on other outdoor adventures both on land and sea. Not only places or things some of us had done or seen, but what other accomplishments that major explorers had pulled off. Long distant paddling popped up and that reminded me of the mountain-sea adventurer Ned Gillette's solo paddle from California to Hawaii in a stock Necky double. I didn't remember the details of that adventure, but looked it up when I got home and thought it would be fun to post in case anybody is thinking about doing a little long distance paddling.

Great trip account. Thanks for posting it. Even knowing he made it, I felt like a giant fist was squeezing my chest as I read it.

Here is a trip that is currently on going. It is called the Vacation to Hell & is sponsored by IR. This years trip is from Baffin Island to Ellesmere. As I remember it their is a sixty mile open crossing, I know its not the Pacific, but their are no polar bears in the Pacific. Then their is a 50 mile portage across a glacier. Of course all unsupported. Team Sweetwater has consists of 4 paddlers, one each from Switzerland, The UK, Tenn, & FL. Here is the url http://devon.irvacationtohell.com/ Enjoy!
