Joseph Berkovitz
Paddling in a quiet spot yesterday behind Browns Island in Marblehead, I saw a tiny critter about 1 mm wide wriggling on my spray skirt. I picked it up to look at it. To my amazement it was completely transparent and had two big eye spots and a visible digestive system. Its body shape was not easy to see since it was out of the water but it vaguely reminded me of a crab, so I looked up "blue crab lifecycle". And indeed it seems that it may have been the "megalops" stage of a crab larva, insofar as this matches pictures I found on the web such as the one on the left in this image: Sadly I didn't have phone or camera with me! anyone here have any expertise on such things?
