josko Posted April 14, 2015 Share Posted April 14, 2015 I'm in the habit of carrying a 12 ga white flare when kayaking in shipping channels. Had to use it only once, and it sure was effective. FWIW, white flares are used for attracting attention without signaling an emergency. My intent is to launch them when being approached by a vessel that shows no indication of having seen me, and I believe there is danger of collision. Curious how other folks feel about white flares and if anyone carries them. They've become surprisingly hard to find, although Orion still makes them.
