  1. Due to predicted high winds on Saturday, we will have the annual Easter Bunny Plunge and Paddle on SUNDAY, March 31.

We will launch at 10:30am from West Beach in Beverly so plan to meet by 10am, or earlier if you need more time.

Bring your bunny ears, Easter treats, and appropriate clothing for paddling and plunging! (This means drysuit for most).

Sea kayak with deck lines and flotation required, as is current NSPN membership and a signed online waiver.

If you haven't paddled with us before, or if you have questions about the adequacy of your gear/clothing, please private message myself and prudenceb.

    Signup in advance here

    Hope to see you there!

    Janet and Prudence

  2. CORRECTION - October 1! (not 3. Thanks Jim!)

Sunday, Oct 1 - join me for a Cape Porpoise Paddle (maybe we'll get lucky and see a Porpoise!). If conditions allow I'd like to spend some time playing in the features of the area.

Launch in the Kennebunk area Sunday morning, exact time and location announced to participants.

This will be a level 3 paddle (https://www.nspn.org/trip-levels/)

Please come dressed for immersion with lunch, water, sea kayak with bulkheads and decklines, etc. Bring a helmet if you want to play near rocks.

  3. I dont think you’re missing anything! The foam keeps the wood in the correct spot (so no need to attach it to the boat) and the wood backing keeps the foam rigid as you push off. It was just an experiment but it worked well (sold the boat, for other reasons).

I sized my foam thickness to have the pegs at the very farthest slot (so as to have more foam, less space to fill with water after a swim). You’d want to do the opposite for maximum storage capacity. So maybe wood and 2 inches of foam, would give you 7 inches of storage back.

  4. Barb: i have a foam “plug” I custom built for my plastic avocet with a (varnished) wood backing that I built to rest against the foot pegs (plastic so can’t push off bulkhead directly). With trimming, you could probably make it work in an avocet LV. It’s yours if you want to try. It’s got angled “foot rests” but they coild easily be removed and then it will only be 2 inches thick if you don’t like them.

    Hi Janet,

I tried to sign up on the google forms on my phone, but I think I screwed up - Did I make the cut?

    Nick

Yep. I’ll send an email later today w water quality info etc. Looking forward to seeing you!

  6. Hi Bob!

Good question, and it depends on what we find. If by some miracle that is good surf I image we will spent quite a bit of time in it. (same if there is any rock play to be found further north). I am not that optimistic based on the forecast for either, however.

  7. Hello

@Stephanie Golmon and I are planning a paddle this Sunday 7/23 from Fisherman's Beach in Swampscott. 9:30am launch time, limiting group size due to parking.

We're hoping to find some "grandma waves" at King's beach / Nahant and/or head north along the coast. Bring a helmet if you are optimistic, lunch/snacks for a full day on the water, and an appropriate sea kayak.

https://forms.gle/8rnLGWnEzKdtjYGF7  for sign up.  (If the form is closed, trip is full)

  8. CANCELED due to unappealing weather forecast

    Hello!

I am planning to paddle on Patriot's Day, Monday April 17. Will be somewhere in the north shore of MA (or possibly NH), exact location to be announced later this week pending forecast, with a mid morning start. Will post a float plan when I pick a location, but mark your calendars :) Will be open to all with appropriate equipment (sea kayak with bulkheads/decklines, clothing for immersion in still-cold water).

    Janet
