  1. I like the idea of practice sessions in S NH pawtuckaway is closer than the others mentioned thus far. Drive time may actually be longer for me than the MA locations since there are no direct highways to the NH locations.

  2. Three of us paddled from Trunk River to West Chop and back two weeks back. We experienced considerable chop 3ft on the way over at the east end of Middle Ground. After short break, we headed back and Middle Ground changed to 4-5 foot chop. Winds were 15-20 predicted for mid morning. We passed mid point around 10:00 am and post trip data confirmed flood current of 2.6 knts. So conditions were NNE winds on the flood heading NNE up the coast. By the time we got near GC 15 chop was easily 5 feet.

My suggestion: cross on slack tide both ways, carry a radio and have at least 4 in your party. Between the conditions and dodging ferries, it was quite a trip.

  3. Jeff Charette and I will be the co-organizers for this year's Jewell trip. This will be a first time experience for both Jeff and me. First time organizing and first trip to Jewell.

I do have contact information for some. Gary, Peter, Gene, Katherine, Rob and Cathy, Rob H.. For everyone else wanting to participate please send the following information to my email at merriman@metrocast.net.

Name and phone number and home phone

    Email address

    ER contact and phone

    Boat information

Auto information: Make, model, color, plate and state.

Friday I will send out email to start our communication string so all see all emails. With that email there will be suggestions for 2-3 northern launch sites. Please state your preference (1). Jeff and I will contact the launch sites for details. There is a good possibility we will be launching two groups from separate sites. For each group volunteers needed for the following positions: navigator, weatherman.

Since we will have two groups, I have an idea for meals. We will be camping two nights: each group takes responsibility for an evening meal. So for each launch pod a volunteer will be needed to coordinate an evening meal.

Jeff and I are really looking forward to this opportunity and are anticipating a great time.

  4. Gary, I would like to accept your request to act as a co-organizer. I will have completed 4*/guide training the first week in May under John Carmody and the Jewel trip would be an excellent venue to put into practice all that information. The timing is perfect to help solidify the skills learned earlier in the month.

    For what it's worth.....

I use an Olympus Tough 6020 14 megapixel which is shockproof to 5 ft and waterproof to 16 ft. Takes great pics and video. USB transfer to MAC. I use 16GB card and rechargeable batteries which last at least a 2 night kayak trip if not longer.
