  1. That looks serious indeed. I see 4 foot swells predicted and think that means there will be 4 foot breaking waves. Obviously, I'm wrong and there's something else going on that I'm unaware of. Doug, can you tell me where you got the info about the breaking wave height so I can educate myself?
  2. Anyone up for some surfing tomorrow night at the usual Hampton spot? Looks like nice weather with some swell leftover from Irene. Swellwatch says 3-4 feet at 9 seconds.
  3. Looks like you guys squeezed out every bit of daylight you had. Cool pics!
  4. Just thought I'd let everyone know that the trip went well. My buddy and I launched from Cousins Island into strong winds that made for exciting paddling. Planned to head down to Jewell island to camp but decided to go up to Bangs Island instead because of the wind. We saw a pair of bald eagles and a number of osprey diving for fish. Got a short shower during the night. We returned to Cousins Island the next day in beautifully calm water. Definitely going to head back out to Casco again. Thanks again to everyone that provided information about the area.
  5. These are a bit overdue. Paddling instead of editing this past week.
  6. Thanks again for all of the info. This is exactly what I was looking for. I'll let everyone know how things go (so long as they do go).
  7. Yikes! That certainly didn't take long. I am a MITA member and have the guidebook. While the guidebook is great for looking up specifics about certain islands, it doesn't give you the overall "feel" of an area, which is what I was looking for from this group. I need a place to start planning. Thanks to everyone who has responded. The information that's been given has been very useful and will get me on my way.
  8. Looks like I might be getting out to Casco bay for a day or two next week. I've never been out there. Any suggestions on which areas to paddle/islands to camp at?
  9. Wednesday sounds like a great idea to me. I can get there anytime, preferably before rush hour kicks in. Thursday I can't do.
  10. My contribution from the trip. Working a camera while sitting in a kayak isn't easy. Thanks again to everyone on the trip for supporting/putting up with me while I got seasick. I'm very glad I bailed when I did. Dustin
  11. Bummer. Looks like a good day to drink some beer.
  12. I'm game so long as the weather isn't completely crappy. Is there a parking lot or should I just find any spot that's available? I'll likely get there a bit earlier than 12:00. Dustin
  13. I've only gone there on weekdays and I haven't had a problem with finding a spot. Park in the middle portion of the lot. Can't comment on how it is on the weekends. Dustin
  14. I'm planning to attend as well. Sounds like a good opportunity for photos! I'd like to see what the weather's doing before I commit fully. Dustin
  15. I'm glad they caught one of them. I'm kind of surprised that the police were actually able to put in the time to stake out a car. That's kind of cool. I guess it's time to get some locks for my rack.
  16. The photo's further evidence of the silly things I do. Thanks. Dustin
  17. My only photo of the day. Hopefully this shows up.
  18. As a former newbie the best advice I can give you is to take some classes to learn some basic boat handling/safety skills. You'd be amazed at what you don't know that you don't know. Charles River Canoe and Kayak gives such lessons, but I believe there are some guides on this board that might be able to steer you towards some other resources as well. Dustin
  19. Muscongus Bay is definitely a nice place to check out. The water's pretty well protected and there's a lot to see. I spent 4 days up there last week.
  20. If there's still room for another paddler, I'm planning to show up. Dustin
  21. Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm going to spend some more time shooting next week if I can make it. Hopefully I can get my camera housing working without any hiccups.
  22. Here's a link to some of the photos I took at last night's surf session. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmarshallphoto/" If anybody would like high-res copies sans watermark, just let me know. Dustin
