Made a trip from the new Fort Point Kayak launch and headed thru the locks then to Esplanade and then back out to USS Constitution.
A nice easy way to get to the harbor ( parking $5.00 all day on weekends)
Now... want to head the other direction
Can you stop at Castle and get out to look around the fort?
Does anyone know if you can stop on Long or Spectacle Islands?
Is there a better Route, or better Islands to paddle to/by?

Thanks for the info. Went early and got a spot in the main parking lot.
This was my first race, but managed 13th in Masters class and 35th overall. The down wind leg was fast thanks to the wind, but you know you gunna pay when you turned and headed for home. 6 Miles 1hr 21 m 39 sec
Next up is Essex River race @ the end of May

Anyone racing in the 6 mile sea kayak race on Sunday?
Anyone have any good insight into a parking location, if DCR Artesani Park area, Brighton (start of 6 mile race) is full?
I know about Magazine beach, but it's kinda far away and heard there's a 4 hr parking time limit
I'm paddling an IMPEX Susquehanna Yellow/white...coming thru...
Thanks

Great trip..the opportunity to observe "rock play" and "follow the leader" were beneficial experiences. Even took on surfing.. apologies again go to Blaine, who was the recipent of my first surfing collision. I'm now rushing out to get a helmet
the pics, as always, are great

I've upgraded from rec to fiberglass over the last three years. Agree that Craigslist is the second spot to check out, but The first thing is is to try boats out. Consider Charles River Kayak, in Newton MA and/ or ContoocooK River Kayak up in NH. They both have a large selection and you can test drive them free, on site.

A few random thoughts in no particular order.
Don't select a radio on the basis of power, floating, battery life, "nifty" features, etc.
All the good radios are roughly equal in performance and battery life. If you look at all the reviews on the website Neil listed you can check out models of interest.
Do select a radio based on how it fits your hand, how easy the controls are to use with thick neoprene gloves on, how easy it is for you to see the display, how well it seems to pick up WX stations as that is a rough test of sensitivity you can make in a store, how loud and clear the audio is, look at the manual to see how easy it is to use various features.
Radio choice seems a rather personal matter and some have very strongly held views regarding some models and brands. Both Icom and Standard make nice radios, there are exceptions, and in particular some of the lower priced Standards (270SX/280SX) are very tough and have excellent performance, but tend to be more "brick" like than say the Icom M72 which is a great radio. If you want to wear the radio on the PFD shoulder strap as many in NSPN do, then size is important and the M88 seems popular amongst that group.

We Level 2+ paddlers will be paddling over to Salem Willows and back, weather permitting. We will follow the western shore of Marblehead harbor and round the point then make the crossing to just north of the power plant, then follow the shore again to the landing at The Willows. The trip length is about 8 nm, and we will time it to be back in plenty of time for the fabulous NSPN post-paddle pig-out.
Further details to follow.
Please respond here if you are interested in joining us.
Cheers,
Rob
