Entirely self-serving response, but... I would encourage you to build a SOF. Tom Yost has some great, free, and relatively easy to build designs on his website. See my topic "Ever wanted to build a kayak for your child?" in this forum for links. Depending on how old your son is, it could be a project to do together. Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

I am thinking about building a skin on fram (SOF) for my kids and have my eyes on a Kidarka or Sea Flea 11. Both are Tom Yost designs that can be found - with instructions - on his website at http://www.yostwerks.com/Kidarka.html or http://www.yostwerks.com/SeaFlea3.html. In the event anyone was looking for an excuse to build a kayak for one or more of the kids in their life, it would be fun to build one while someone else was doing the same. No need to build in the same space (although I suppose that is an option)...just hoping to gain insight and inspiration from a concurrent build. Anyone interested? Colin Hamilton

I am sorry you did not have a great experience. As someone who had a very positive experience with those I met at Walden Pond, I encourage you to try again or to at least give them the benefit of the doubt. Most paddlers I have encountered - and these folks in particular - strike me as good people. Happy paddling... Colin Hamilton
