  1. I use reservoir systems for hiking, biking, and sometimes kayaking. I find the best thing is to keep them dry - empty out after using then find a way to get the inside dry. The expansion hanger systems are OK but you really need airflow so a Zero Goo can take care of that. Noisy like a hair dryer but I put it in a closed room when in use. As far as cleaning I use economical options like Nashbar Aqua Cleanse as it is much cheaper than the Camelbak stuff. Or, simply use mint Listerine knockoff store brand mouthwash. It has antimicrobial properties (I'm not sure how well it works against mold but bleach will kill anything) and since it is made for use in your mouth if there's a taste left over I'd rather have mint than bleach. The main thing is to keep them dry so nothing can grow in the first place. The tubes usually get funky regardless.

  2. Some great action pics (timing). I need to break out my camera more. I'm still working on posting video. The first round of renders somehow got set at widescreen within 4:3 so I had to re-render. Then my overnight uploads failed. Each video can take 2-3 hours to upload all the while hogging my connection so I've been trying to do them at night. I'm trying to work my router's QoS settings to see if I can have uploads scale back usage when something else wants a chance then I can commit to uploading sooner and not be confined to off-hours upload windows. The caveats to shooting hours of footage I then have to edit and post...

With any luck there will be some up later this evening then more for tomorrow and I'll post a link here.

  3. We launch from the Seabrook side of the harbor. Just over the drawbridge there are some fishing buildings and past that a long parking lot with a public restroom in the middle. We park there and carry to the water.

  4. I use a particular style that is made up of a coiled, phone cord type leash which unclips at the paddle shaft. I clip the other end to my deck bungies and put the "slack" under the bungies so it isn't mobile and just have the quick connect piece accessible. I don't use the leash to paddle, only as a retaining device when wanting to use my hands for photos or when having done a wet exit and wanting to have my hands free to get back in rather than having to slide the paddle blade under the bungies and have the paddle in the way. With the majority of the leash under the bungies I don't have cord to get tangled in (or annoyed by) but I can pull out what I need for the task then tuck it back in later. As stated I use it as a temporary holder rather than a full-time leash. I suppose if it were used full-time there's still the danger of entaglement but since it is elastic under no stress it is shorter than a typical line (under 3' relaxed) and the coils help it stay stuck in place under the bungies and has no tendency to work loose. Also you would only need to have the length out you needed for range of motion rather than the full length supplied. It has a Kevlar core so I don't know how easily it could be cut in an emergency. I'm sure shears would have no problem but a knife might not be as quick. It has served me well based on my usage preferences and if having a temporary paddle holder is all you want it might work for you too. An additional plus is that if you buy one for each paddle, you really only need to have one leash part in your kit and each paddle retains it's own small connector part so when switching paddles you don't have to do anything extra. http://www.seattlesportsco.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=147&idcategory=0

  5. Yes, thank you very much for organizing and sharing your beach and amenities. I've been to Cape Porpoise twice but neither time did the outside of the islands. I was happy to meet two new people including a fellow nordy owner. Also spend time in the choppier water brought to us from offshore last week while we had it. A little more experience with what bigger swells do between the rocks, and what it is like crossing the break zone of larger-than-normal-for-here breakers. Two got me in Casco, but the unholy trinity off Cape Porpoise's mis-timed experiment didn't. I wish I had video but only have some photos of napping ducks. It looks like you have a decent surf spot just up from the last island of the Cape before your part of the beach. Shallows that produce waves with plenty of room before the shore.

  6. OK, great. At this point in time I'll plan on going. I'm also thinking of hitting Hampton again today around 4 to play in the waves and bowl since high tide is 5:30 and the water temps are great, and the weather hot and sunny. If anyone is interested let me know 603 319 4107 as I'm doing stuff that has to be done and if in a groove I might skip it. I should take the opportunity while I have it, so if having company that would tilt favor towards fun instead of duty.

  7. Hi Gene,

I started surfing last year and didn't really get the hang of it. This year I have a new boat and it isn't nearly as forgiving and I also tend to broach more often. When I do I was having trouble working through the bracing and staying upright. I would often fall over the wave since the boat has less stability than my old one and I can't just lean into it with all my worth anymore. Technique is key in this boat. As such I was apprehensive about picking good waves since I was sure I'd dump and that gets tiring after a few times. So, a few Tuesdays ago I just spent time in the breaking zone sideways and practiced getting hammered for awhile. I just took the waves sideways while I was already prepared for it and rode in that way with bracing. The repeated exposure helped me concentrate on bracing properly and now I can go back to learning to surf. I have developed a bit of instinct by way of reflexes and that's infinitely helpful. Due to my lack of proficiency I don't tell people how to do anything but I do know it is helpful to take each boat out and get the feel for it since they are different. Getting the knack of handling what happens when a surf run goes badly helps me concentrate on practicing good runs. Confidence and comfort is a big part of succeeding. "Sacrificing" a surf day and taking my licks allowed me to move on faster. Now to nail the roll in breaking surf zones...

  8. I have some friends visiting next week and will likely be bringing their boats. I'd like to hook them up with dry suits and as it stands am short one suit. Male size L, most likely (Kokatat sizing). Potential for purchase as I'm trying to talk him into that, so if you have one you want to sell or at least rent out I'd be interested. Coastal NH proximity best since I don't want to drive all over the place. Also could do initial exchange at a meetup if that worked out.

  9. I just saw a commercial for a new movie and John Travolta was using the ProStaffs backwards ;) I have a pair and often people try to use them the wrong way too. Funny to see misuse of things in serious movies, even if cheesy "done a million times already" action flicks. I think they were ProStaffs anyway. Maybe there's a special agent trick when using them backwards? Perhaps they just look more tactical on film that way. But as stated, "Wax's methods aren't exactly regulation."

1:34 in the trailer. I had to suffer through a few different trailers to confirm what I thought I saw.
