I'm interested. I've been to Pavilion Beach before but never from land.

I'm driving from Billerica so I might need a later meeting time say 11 AM if that works with the tides if not I can make it at 10.

  2. If you want to go to Gloucester you should have gone there 4 years ago. See you at Tick's @11

I'm running late because I voted. I could possibly show at 12 PM if if you guys make up you minds and give me an idea of your general direction. Then we can link up on VHF 69.

  3. I'm thinking of trying to do a last minute registration for Peter Casson's BCU *3 two day training course and 1 day assessment at the Maine Sea Kayak Symposium this weekend. It's probably to late to take the class and assessment but can anybody recommend Peter an instructor. I'm waiting for the Symposium registration people to return my inquiry.

It is fine to respond by personal message.

Also, I was hoping to take the training and assessment this summer with John Carmody in the Boothbay area but weekends are usually a bad time for me to take formal training. If I can get 3 other people that want to take the training on weekdays I think John could set something up for us. I think John is probably booked for the weekends at this point even if I could swing a weekend this fall.

  4. Labor Day is traditionally considered the end of summer. No way! I'm still wearing white shoes, drinking lemonade and intend to still get wet until President's Day.

Weekday get away either Weds. or Thurs. Weds. looks a bit windy, Thurs. more mellow. Easy launch from the Willows, Salem or Tuck's Point, Manchester by the Sea 8 to 12 mi coastal paddle.

Post interest here or send email or PM.

    Hey Gene,

So far either day looks good for me. I'm headed for Walden Pond this afternoon to shake out some new gear I got up in ME this weekend too. I'll probably be down there around 3.

  5. How about going out of Marblehead from Riverhead Beach, out around Children's Island, maybe Baker's or there abouts. 10:30 BIB on Thursday?

    Bill,

Just in case you notice your personal messages about as much as I do...like hardly at all, please see my PI

  6. I might be interested. The weather looks great -- on the warm side.

    --David.

    David,

We could end up on two paddles together this week. Please check your message box for NSPN. I wrote longish message to you about a post you made last May.

To avoid confusion with the other post, here is the information for the Wed. trip.

Butts in boat time of 8:30am. Head out the mouth and clockwise around Plum Island. Usual SNG rules apply. Please see link for the put in location.

I'm looking forward to the trip. It's still a bit tenuous for me because I have to get dog sitting with short notice and I have that evening engagement. Hopefully I'll see ya'll at the launch site tomorrow.

  8. With the fairly early put-in and if all goes fail well, is it reasonable to hope that I can get of out the water by 3:30 or 4:00 PM? I'd be willing to go ahead and do some if it solo too, assuming I’m up for it. I’ve been looking forward to a long paddle all summer!!!

I have pick up my wife from an MBTA train station somewhere to the south in rush hour and head to Foxboro for a 7:30 event. Otherwise it would be great to go with Al assuming we get a minyan (What ever that is or an NSPN trip?).

  9. Wed 8/20

Anyone interested in a shorter paddle than the 20+ miler that is posted for Thursday but which appears to be going Wed? Suppose to be a beautiful day. 10-12+ miles, level 3, work together have a good time?

I’m defiantly in for Wednesday or Thru and I might be able to do both paddles if they were on seperate days of course. However I need to be off the water by 4:0 PM on Wed, 3:30 would be even better. I’ve been looking forward to a long paddle all summer, so I’m hoping this works out for me.

  10. You didn't miss it. Leon had a conflict with the launch time and no one else was interested. To take advantage of ideal tides and winds tomorrow for a Cape Ann circle we would need to launch at 9AM and go clockwise. I'm still a little sore from Saturday's paddle so I'd just as soon take it easy around the Islands in Salem Sound. tomorrow.

OK, we can circumnavigate Cape Ann at some later date, hopefully. Unlike you I’ve had a lot of rest from paddling this week although I've done some hard physical work. If you’d like to take it easy then I could use more rolling practice in salt water. I could bring along $$$ for the Trustee’s at Misery Island and practice in the cove? Or we can practice in one of the coves on the way to Gloucester. I have to show of that new roll I did on Great Pond and make sure it’s not a fluke. 11:30 at Tucks then? I’d like to drive off by 5:30 PM. If we have great weather I don’t think it’s a problem if I head back alone. Leon my be deep into the quest for bass at 5:30 PM especially if we don[t get on the water till Noon.

  11. I’m up for it too, at 11:30.

But, I was disappointed that I could not circumnavigate Cape Ann with you guys last week. I don’t know if the tides, winds and swells are still favorable for it tomorrow.? Did you guys get stopped by the thumpers on your last attempt? Any chance of pulling it off tomorrow? I don’t like bucking traffic early in the morning but I’d do it if we could attempt to make it all the way around.

    Sid
