    Wed. Lunch Paddle #8: 7/15/2020

    This week's Wednesday Lunch Paddle is on July 15, 2020 in Boston Harbor from the Winthrop Boat Ramp. Note that there is a $5 launch fee.

    Covid-19 paddling: on this trip we will strictly observe social distancing and MA state recreational boating guidelines for the pandemic. Please research and respect all regulations that apply at the time of the paddle. There is a strict limit of 10 paddlers on the trip. You must register using the form link below to be sure that you're actually on the paddle.

    We will stay at least 6 feet apart, minimize sharing docks and ramps with others, and wear face masks while off the water in public use areas. We also employ an online waiver to avoid passing around a physical piece of paper.

    You must be a paid-up NSPN member to join this trip. Your signup information will only be shared with other participants.

    Predictions: NE winds 5 to 10 kt. Waves 1 foot or less. Temps upper 60Fs. HT 7:45am 8.3ft, LT 1:46pm 1.8ft.

    When/what: We will meet at 9.30am and launch at 10 sharp. We'll have a beach briefing in some safe manner, make a plan together based on what people feel like doing.

    This trip doesn't have a specific level: we'll determine the route based on who shows up, what people want to do, and what the environment wants to do. All properly equipped members are welcome: please bring boats with rigged deck lines, bulkheads, spray skirts, and dress for immersion. If you're not sure you have a safe vessel, please get in touch with us and ask.

    Wed. Lunch Paddle #15: 8/14/2019 @ Nahant Beach

    Thanks for excellent report! Agreed: Egg, Saunders, Castle, and East Point ledges were great but the Quads and Subterranean were the stars. The Twins (lowermost pair of the Quads) were wide and inviting, but with a surprising push. The third and fourth of the Quads require even higher water - week after the Autumnal Equinox; Wed, 10/2 has 11.5 feet at 2:28pm?...The Subterranean is so named because at lower water the overhang on entry from the NE end feels like a cave. Also, the geology of East Point is so unique and beautiful - reminiscent of the Bold Coast -  that a earth-focused name for the slot is appropriate.

    NSPN Wednesday Lunch Paddle #15 takes place August 14, 2019.

    We will meet at the Nahant Beach and Playground Beach House at 10:00am. The parking lot is on the right off the rotary at the intersection of Lynn Shore Drive and the Lynnway. It is at the base of the causeway that runs out from Lynn to Nahant (PM me for further directions). After meeting we will determine alternative parking and nearby put-ins if the lot is full or beach too rough.

    HT 11:45am, 73F air,  NNE wind 8 to 11 kt. A slight chance of showers. Seas around 1 ft.  MSW at noon is showing 1-2 foot, 2.5 foot @ 5 sec primaries.

    Let's meet at 10 am sharp, and ready to launch around 10.20 am. Then we'll have a beach briefing, make a plan together based on what people feel like doing, and get on the water, hopefully around 10.30 am. There are several options to paddle from this launch so we will plan as a group based on conditions and skill level.

    NSPN Wednesday Lunch Paddle #11 takes place on July 10, 2019.

    Put In: Lanesville, Gloucester, MA. If driving north on Rt 127, take a left onto Duley Street right after the Lanesville Package Store, and drive down to the water. There are two put-in options in the cove that we will consider on meeting at the end of Duley Street. PM me if you need further directions.

    This trip doesn't have a specific level: we'll determine the route based on who shows up, what people want to do, and what the environment wants to do. All properly equipped members are welcome: please bring rigged boats with deck lines, bulkheads, spray skirts, and dress for immersion.

    Current forecast is variable winds less than 5 kt becoming SE around 6 kt in the afternoon. Sunny. Seas around 1 ft. High tide is 6:14am.

    NSPN Wednesday Lunch Paddle #10 takes place on July 3, 2019.

    Parking: Our parking is immediately on the left as you enter the large parking lot from the street anywhere before the public boat launching ramp. Closest to ramp is best. Signs indicate those spots are reserved for public launching. Nice little beach for launching starts about 20 yards feet from car. No change unless you use the ramp ($5). 
     
    Facilities: Nice, clean public rest rooms across the parking lot in the Ferry Terminal. Enter from right side.

    6/26/2019 - Wednesday Lunch Paddle @ Hampton Harbor

    I just saw this. Just to be clear (less unclear?) the south side of the parking lot is at 210 Ocean Blvd, Seabrook, NH 03874. It is showing an establishment called the Scoot-n-Around. If you are driving north you will see this on the left side of Rt 1A which is Ocean Blvd. If you have hit the bridge then you've gone too far.

    NSPN Wednesday Lunch Paddle #9 takes place on June 26, 2019.

    This week's installment launches from the Rt 1A put-in at Hampton Harbor (On the left side driving north just before the 1A bridge. There is a large parking lot and bathrooms.). This trip doesn't have a specific level: we'll determine the route based on who shows up, what people want to do, and what the environment wants to do. All properly equipped members are welcome: please bring rigged boats with deck lines, bulkheads, spray skirts, and dress for immersion.

    Current forecast is variable winds 5 kt or less. Partly sunny. Seas around 2 ft. Magicseaweed for Hampton Beach is showing 6 second 2.5 foot primaries and about 80F. Low Tide is at 1pm.

    Let's meet at 10 am sharp, and ready to launch around 10.20 am. Then we'll have a beach briefing, make a plan together based on what people feel like doing, and get on the water, hopefully around 10.30 am.

    This week's installment launches from Puritan Road in Swampscott. This trip doesn't have a specific level: we'll determine the route based on who shows up, what people want to do, and what the environment wants to do. All properly equipped members are welcome: please bring rigged boats with deck lines, bulkheads, spray skirts, and dress for immersion. Please respond to thread if attending, and I will PM the address (it is a house). Depending on number of participants we may run a short shuttle to Kings Beach.

    Current forecast looks like WNW wind around 6 kt becoming SSW in the afternoon. Sunny. Seas around 1 ft. HT 7:45am LT 1:53pm. Magicseaweed is showing at most 2 foot seven second primaries from the SE. We will assess the beach to determine if surfing is viable. Lunch will be around East Point in Nahant. Visits to Saunders Ledge, East Point Rocks, and Egg Rock are possible.

    This post announces NSPN Wednesday Lunch Paddle #5, on May 29.  

    This week's edition will meet at Pavilion Beach in Gloucester near the Greasy Pole. The trip will be geared to the desires of the participants, and launch location may be adjusted so on-time arrival is required.  

    The forecast is for 10kt E wind (as of Sunday). Temps expected in the 50s F, with rain.

    Manchester tides: HT - 8.08a; LT - 2:14p.

    With the water temp barely cracking 50 F, please bring drysuits. As usual, fully rigged boats with deck lines, bulkheads, spray skirts are necessary to make this a safe trip.
