Great Job Suwin!!!
You looked awesome. I also liked your technique with the unconventional "rescue" by Mary B.

I can make it! Yay! Full contact games are on!

Nicole and I are going to Portland (OR) in September and we wanted to know if anyone had any info on kayaking destinations. We are looking for places (or an outfitter) very near to the city or in the Columbia River Gorge area. Basically we want to do a lower level paddle to just get out on the water and enjoy the scenery.
Thanks in advance.

Beautiful Job!!!

I have a 6-person "dome with lockers" tent... it may be a bit too big, but you are welcome to it:) It does "fairly well" in the rain... it is a Sears tent... not high end. To get an idea, it is big enough to fit a queen sized air mattress and bags. Set-up is average... not too terribly quick.

Thanks again everyone for a great day. It was a combination of good conversation and new challenges! Everyone was very encouraging and I was very happy to have the experience of paddling on some not-so-smooth water in the company of season veterans:) It feels great to test my paddling skills and my kayak did surprisingly well in those kinds of conditions. I came back with another trip under my belt and a couple of great pointers on my forward stroke... which I will be testing out this week.
It is amazing that I just started paddling this year - a great testament to everyone's tips and patience at the practice sessions:)
Thanks again for setting the trip up and I am already excited for the next one!

I have been dreaming of going back to Holbox for a few years now.... has it recovered from the Hurricane? I know it really got nailed... the highest point on the island is only a couple of feet above sea level. When I was there we stayed at this great eco-friendly place called Chimay. It sits all alone on the western part of the island.
Thanks for sharing your trip... do you have any pics?

I am all ears when it comes to easy loading systems... let me know if anyone has them for sale...

I will be able to help out in the morning.

Thanks...
It definitely clears things up. I know it is good to have a little low-wattage light but it is good to find out from everyone which lights do not impare night vision and which work best.

A massive kayak/frisbee game...
Full Contact - boat to boat and quite frankly I am surprised that we all still have our hands and arms...
it's a great game!

I use this cart frequently... may be overkill with the inflated tires but it can handle anything without problem.

Hi Rick.
This sounds like fun - I am definitely interested in going. I have never paddled at night, so could someone explain what kind/amount of lights are required?

I would love to help with this event, but I will be at a wedding that day. If there is a rain date I probably could help with that.

I am planning on going out for an easy paddle in the afternoon in Salem harbor either along Marblehead or along Salem. I am most likely going to launch between 4 and 5pm from the end of my street... it is no problem to unload at the water and then park at my house. Launch time will depend on responses.

Welcome:)
I live in Salem as well and I am looking for any opportunity to go out. I am mostly available 3pm and after during the week and at variable times on the weekend. I know that someone has posted from Marblehead and I would be happy to go out with them, I just want to make sure that my skill level (fairly new) will match the outing.

Or an extra set of equipment:)
Yikes:)

Does anyone who is going on the Beach Paddle this Sunday have an extra set of equiptment that a fellow NSPN member could use (Kayak, Paddle, Sprayskirt, PFD)? Nicole is 5'3'', 140ish.
Thanks,
Shaila

I am paddling a Perception Carolina and I am looking for L2, protected waters/conditions. Basically I just want to slip away and play/paddle while the non-paddlers stay at camp.
-
Next weekend I am going camping near Hampton Falls with a few non-kayakers and would love to slip away for a couple of short, mild paddles. I am not familiar with the area - does anyone have any suggestions of places?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks so much for the offer, but she won't be able to make the practice session:( Maybe just the bbq... what a punk!

Hey guys, I think my girlfriend Nicole is going to come too. She is a NSPN member without a kayak (?!) - a sad, sad thought:)

As a beginner, it would be great if people posted level 2, 2+ trips as well. That being said, I understand that these are Private Trips and not club trips so there is no responsibility or obligation to provide lower-level options. I really have gotten a lot of information from paddling with more experienced people and I think that kind of learning is invaluable. I also think it would give me a gauge for whether I would be ready and could go on some level 3 trips.
