  1. Am interested in continuing my trip leader training. Could you tell me what the training schedule is for this spring 2007? Janis
  2. Hi Gillian ,, I would like to nominate Kevin B for paddler of the year.. I only kayaked with him a few times,, but he was always so patient, well equiped, and is a greaet paddler. He also organizes so many show and go's,, trying to get everyone involved. Janis clifford
  3. It was a cold and stormy night,,,,,kidding,,,, it was a beautiful, warm night,, we launched kayaks from Pavillion beach in the lowest of tides,,(Small hike from car to water) around 5:15,, paddled in front of Cranes. It was so flat, and peaceful. Spotted a few folks on the beach and a few hearty swimmers. A large sandbar extended out from the beach, paddled around that to the mouth of the Essex. At that point we turned around and enjoyed some following waves, and a gorgeous sunset. As we paddled behind Plum Island, the moon emerged,, a giant fireball,, time: 7:14,, it rose quickly from the horizon,, hung in the sky for about 20 minutes,, then cloud cover hampered our view. We were off the water about 7:45,,and as we were tying down our kayaks a decent anount of fog rolled in and the moon disappeared completely. Spider and I departed, happy to have witnessed rise of the full Corn Moon.
  4. Yes,, there is still interest,,I know another yaker that wants to go,, I just hope its not too cloudy tom night, It was pretty cloudy earlier tonight,, but then it cleared,,,,,if it looks like it's going to be a cloudy night,,we may cancel,, won't be able to see the September Corn Moon,,, but as of right now,, it's a go. So , Pavillion around 5:00
  5. Any interest in putting in around 4:30-5:00, Thursday afternoon, September7, @ Pavillion Beach,, paddling around behind Plum Island or maybe venture in front of Cranes and watch the moon rise? Off the water around 7:30- 8:00. Weather: Thu Night SW winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 1 to 2 ft. Temps are supposed be be 77 during the day with a low of 60 at night. This is probably a level 2-3 trip, depending where the group wants to go. Let me know,, Janis Clifford
  6. The antique vessel, Friendship, that is usually docked in Salem, is sailing up to Newburyport on Tue., due to arrive in the harbor on Wed. between 12:00-1:00. I'm thinking about paddling in the Merrimac, and watch the arrival. Put in would be Cashman Park. Any interest? I'm guessing this would be a level 3 trip, due to current in the river. High tide is around 12:30,, I think,, but I will double check and post more details about the trip tomorrow.
  7. Summary of the day: Met at Pavillion around 9 and on the water @ 9:30ish. The group included Janis, Al, Les, Kate, and Josh. Josh is not a member but just happened to hook up with us. We paddled up Fox Creek,, plenty of water,,out into the basin behind Cranes. Scenery was spectacular as usual. Many boats were anchored near the beach. Stopped for a short snack break at the mouth of the Essex. Couple of guys were playing sand golf. We were within their range, so to avoid any injuries to oursleves or our boats, we hopped back in the kayaks, paddled out in front of Cranes. Conditions were great, some small folllowing waves and wind at our back,,we flew. Stopped and strolled the beach viewing various sand sculptures. Most creations revolved around the "big dig",, (no pun intended),,but I enjoyed the Stooges and gopher artwork! It was a beautiful day,, perfect temperature,,great company,, There was talk of making this an annual trip event,,,,maybe,, we could even build a sand kayak for the competition?!?,,,,,,nah,,,,,let's not go OVERBOARD! (corny pun intended) Janis
  8. Forecast as of 9:43 PM EDT on August 18, 2006 Coastal Waters From Merrimack River Ma Out 25 Nm To Plymouth Ma Out 40 Nm...Including The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary- Overnight SW winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Sat S winds 5 to 10 kt...increasing to 10 to 15 kt late. Seas around 2 ft. This is the forecast from Marine Underground. I have paddled this trip a few times,,the tides should work getting through Fox Creek early,, as for the front of Cranes, well,, we may have a few waves. We can discuss the trip when everyone arrives. The big sandbar near Cranes will be exposed, and a few of my friends are playing golf on it! I am not an expert, and am willing to listen to any advice.
  9. Re: SNG Pavillion Beach,, OK,, this is a confirmed trip,, level 3, Be there around 9, and on the water @ 9:30 High tide is 9:04,, so we should be good with Fox Creek See you there! Janis PS First time ever posting a trip
  10. SNG Pavillion Beach Saturday, August 19 Put in @ Pavillion Beach around 9:00,, travel through Fox Creek, (high tide is around 9),,back of Cranes, out mouth of Essex and travel along the front of Cranes and view sandcastle competition. I think this trip would be a level 2-3. Anyone interested?
