  1. Opinion: ".. versatile and water resistant Hydroseal Compression Stuff Sacks®. ..." The material resists water. The bag is not waterproof! "...Unlike other compression systems that rely on a triad strap design and a drawcord closure, these compression sacks feature a four-strap system with a hinged zipper opening that optimizes space management while minimizing water penetration..." Great for backpacking. Four straps are better than three. The closer MINIMIZES water penetration. For kayaking, the traditional watertight, vinyl bags make more sense. Richard Living to learn. 2. Dee: If it's dark, without cloud cover, just look toward the north. Pick a spot away from city lights. They generally appear as wispy veils of light across the sky. Occasionally, depending on conditions, you see colors (blue, green, red). It's a spectacular sight. Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  3. For about 15 years Gateraid had sponsored important scientific research on hydration and exercise. Recent papers: Move around the site. You will be impressed. Very important: Do Not Dilute! Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  4. Minots Light The lighthouse was officially lit for the beginning of service on November 15, 1860. A new optic was installed in 1893 with a distinctive 1-4-3flash. This became associated with the phrase “I love you” based on the number of letters in each word (1-4-3). Hence, the light was given the nickname of the “I love you light”. 6. Jim: I'm with you. Crikey??? Ladies Home Journal????? Also: >....... amateurs built the Ark. Professionals built the Titanic Is that Ark., like in Arkansas? ;-) Ref: the new NSPN site I think it should read........... "Professionals built the Empire State Building". Keep up the good work. 7. Sensational job!!!!!! My hat is off to the Web Committee. Whoever selected and worked on the photos deserves high praise. Using B&W, careful cropping and vignettes have made the site very inviting. You've turned raw photography into great shots! The "Who's Who In NSPN" and "Contact Us" really adds credability. You should realize a substantial increase in membership. Well done. Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  8. I'll be there with dry suit, wet suit, fuzzy suit and all the safety stuff. Maybe we'll even have some "conditions" to smile about. ;-) See y'all Sunday. Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  9. Blast......Double Blast....TRIPPLE BLAST!!!!! I'm still grinning. I'm with you. Lots of numbers were mentioned yesterday. From inexperienced sources, the unofficial, unconfirmed wave height estimates ranged from 3' to 33' (maybe more). ;-) All I know is that when a wave would hit a cliff, it was like Old Faithful. It may have been unofficially reported that the FAA was warning aircraft to stay clear of Normans Rock. What a sensational show!!!! Each time I asked when we could do this again, I received the same answer: "you'll just have to wait for the next hurricane". Come on Kate! We'll have to rely on Christopher, Rick and Jed for the real stats. Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  10. Saturday was a blast. Yaaaahooooo! Once we found the spot, it was waves, waves and more waves. It was extremely beautiful and at times it was very weard. Waves were rolling at us from two directions at once. You really had to be on your toes (so to speak). The best was when two breaking waves have you in pincer. It was like being in a boxing ring with two opponents attacking at once. Punch through or over one and then immediately brace for the next one that wallops you on the beam. A real hoot. HUGE smiles from everyone as we yelped with enthusiasm. One exception...you shouldn't smile while a wave smacks you in the face. Wait till it passes....then you smile and yelp with glee. It was a real thrill to play with a great bunch of wave hounds. Many thanks to David for organizing the trip and to Christopher and Peter for coaching us on the fine points. A word of caution...........playing in the waves is very addicting! Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  11. Christopher: Great trip, wonderful group and a beautiful evening. Oh,.....and a sensational trip report. This could be a monthly must-do. Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  12. Geeezzzz....at least you were out paddling. That's more than some of us did. I was green with envy thinking about you guys watching the grand procession as the annual cruise boats progressed to the starting line. It is a shame that the NYYC and the weather did not cooperate. I'm sure the good companionship made up for the inclement conditions. You still have another crack at watching the show. Tomorrow from Marblehead they race in the Astor Cup before they head back home. It should be a real scene. Any takers? Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  13. Great shots Steve. It's about time you ended up in a photo. Richard Living to learn. Romany White, Blue trim
  14. Congratulations to David and his team for spearheading this very impressive project! Garbage to gorgeous! The Upper Mystic Lake shoreline went from an uninviting garbage pit to a beautiful pristine environment. It was amazing how just a few people could make such a dramatic difference in appearance. The before and after was overwhelming. The MDC should make it mandatory that a person spend one hour of cleanup duty before being allowed to use any of its property. Many thanks.........well done!
