  1. This confirms this trip is on. Of course, weather and conditions may force last minute decisions. Please check here Saturday AM before you leave. Additions, minor changes, and typos are in red. Someone else led this last year and it was one of my favorite trips. River, creek in marsh, Essex Bay, Cranes Beach (open ocean) and spend one hour on Cranes at the The Annual THE CRANE BEACH SAND BLAST. See: http://www.thetrustees.org/pages/5973_sandblast_2007.cfm ----------------------------- When: Saturday, August 25. Where: Pavilion Beach (Ipswich), Fox Creek, Essex Bay, Crane Beach. See: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1252338 Timing: Launch at 10 AM. HighTide is at 9:30 AM. This gives us enough water in Fox Creek. Put-in: Pavilion Beach (Ipswich)- http://www.nspn.org/put_ins.htm Level: Level 3 (3+ possible). Max distance 11 miles. Crane Beach is open ocean and can have current. You should feel comfortable with the distance, have an ocean kayak, and basic wet-exit and self-rescue skills. The other stuff: Bring lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, etc. This is a private trip so show-and-go rules apply. Al Al Coons Cetus - Red/White
  2. Can you help? I am out of town on my parent's computer. I think it was the first model that did not use vacuum tubes. Cannot access maps of any kind. Could someone post the distance of this trip and perhaps a map? (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/)
  3. Yes. Seaward side. Covers a great length of the beach. I am thinking 1/2 mile or more in different categories: children, pros, families, etc. We paddled to the end closest to Pavillion and walked back along the works of sand art. Crowded and wonderful tone..great creativity. Then we had a short paddle to finish the day (1 mile?). We had 8 paddlers at the level-3 Private Trip last weekend to Misery. Great to see so many club (and non-club) paddlers getting together. Let's do it again!

  5. Thanks Bill..will post the pictures when I am back in town at the end of the week.
  6. Have some pictures from today's Private Trip to Misery. Is the Gallery ready for posting? At this point I am being told I do not have permission. [Given the condition of the paddlers, this may be very understandable. However, the seals looked in much better shape. Just joking about the paddlers...was a great trip, 13 miles with nice conditions, flat on the way out, sun from time to time, reasonable wind and waves on the return.] Thanks, Al
  7. Thanks Bob. Like them of both. Some of us consider the view from the grassy high point a one minute walk up to the right above the beach on Misery (on the Little Misery side) as good a view if not better (higher) than the one on Little Misery. Worth checking them both out. The Clivus rocks. Just don't leave your PFD on the porch as I did on my first trip a few years ago. Managed to get 25 yards off the beach before I realized "things did not feel right." Either way, I like to to support The Trustees for doing such a good job with Misery and all of their properties. I hope those who are not already will consider a membership (www.thetrustees.org) Al
  8. Reminder: $5 donation expected at Misery unless you are a member of the Trustees.
  9. When: Sunday, August 19. Where: Marblehead/Riverhead Beach, the small islands, Bakers, Misery. 11 miles. See http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1239243 for route. Timing: Launch at 9:30 AM. Low Tide is at 10 AM and people would like to get an early start to avoid boat traffic and have an early return. Early lunch/snack at Misery. Hope to return 1:30-2:30 PM. Put-in: Riverhead - http://www.nspn.org/put_ins.htm Level: Level 3-- You should feel comfortable with the distance, have an ocean kayak, and basic wet-exit and self-rescue skills. The other stuff: Trip is on. We have 3-5 paddlers already. Just in case, please check this string for updates before leaving Sunday. Bring lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, etc. This is a private trip so show-and-go rules apply. Al Al Coons Cetus - Red/White
  10. Would be great to paddle with you again Roger. With the three of us I am sure we will go out. Let's see who responds tonight. Have a small muscle pull so it will not be a long trip. Al
  11. Hi. Trying to gage interest for moderate level 3 S&G this Sunday. High Tide at 4:20 PM. Weather and Winds look good. Have one other committed paddler - my wife. Thinking 9-12 miles. Relatively early launch at City Point & do inner Boston Islands? Riverside to Mysery (wife has not been there)? High Tide is late for circumnavigation of Castle Island but possible. Rather get done earlier if possible though. Suggestions? Please post or email interest ASAP. Thanks, Al
  12. See http://www.townonline.com/homepage/x748943062 for a few details. Al
  13. Hi Ern. Conditions will be determined by the what we find further out. There will likely be much chop due to boat traffic and if we go out towards or to Graves things could be much different than close in. The max distance alone pushes some 3-level paddler's limits. Perhaps I am too conservative, but I would rather err on the safe side. Al
  14. The trip is definitely on unless there is a sudden hurricane Sunday morning. We have 6 or 7 paddlers who have indicated they are coming. So join us if you are still thinking about it. Would not hurt to check here when you get up Sunday AM anyway, but I will only post again if there is some problem. Al
  15. I just spoke by phone to another paddler who is going to join us and she said that they are one and the same...so we should have no problem finding each other. Glad you can make it. Al
  16. Would think between 3-4 PM. Depends on what the group wants to do. Should make it to Osprey but I guess that would depend on the traffic and the route you take. Hope to see you. Al Cetus Red/White
