  1. Ha! White lights? I'm sporting all kinds of colorful ones!

Well I was all set to join you to howl tonight but I went into what was described as a VERY impressive V-tach when finishing up a cardiac stress test yesterday, so I'll be undergoing a cathetrization and possibly a nuclear stress test here at Mt Auburn instead! Damn.

Apparently paddling agressively around 120 bpm has been symptom-free, but I returned to biking after a decade's relapse and found a truck sitting on my chest when hitting 140 bpm sprinting uphill a couple of times last week, so maybe it's good that this gets caught early. Sigh....

Hope to join you on the water soon

    Have fun tonight.

Take care Ernie, hope you're feeling fit and ready to paddle soon. :bravo:

  2. I've always coveted the IR Zephyr Hooded Jacket, but at $180 it's too expensive. Just found a couple of red/gray ones ion eBay from Vermont Paddlesports for $60 BuyItNow and grabbed the Large. They've one Medium left. The regular Zephyr is my favorite splash jacket for fit, so it's nice to find the full hooded one cheap for cold rainy paddles.

I tried to copy the eBay link but I goofed.

    Cheers.

Thanks Ernie, I got one. Fits perfectly

  3. Planning our vacation time around the symposium in Bar Harbor this september...wondering what to expect...or come prepared for.

Where are most of the events held? Are they in one main location? or spread out at different put-ins?

Anybody go to the BBQ and/or Lobsterbake before... is it similar to our solstice event? Or is it more likely by dinner time, folks will be exploring local entertainment, etc...?

Anyone have experience bringing a vehicle on the CAT? (any problems with kayaks on it?) anything we should know ahead of time? (I've heard birth certificates are still adequate for this year...)

Personally, I've only been camping at Arcadia once. We'll be there into the week after the symposium...any other recommended familiar haunts, must-sees or hang-outs?

Any tips and feedback welcomed! B)

We went to NS on the CAT last month without any problem. They load the kayak topped vehicles last, along with the RV's and roof top carriers. As long as you meet the maxiumum height requirement there is no additional charge. I think it's 8 '

  4. See Gloucester Times Story.

The Cut bridge over the Annisquam River was locked down indefinitely yesterday after scuba divers found general structural deterioration of the seawall along the east side of the Blynman Canal that puts the tender's house in risk of collapse.

The drawbridge was ordered locked in the down position at midnight, allowing motor vehicles free passage, but causing major adjustments for the heavy traffic on the river.

Whale watch and fishing boats moored in the river will have no choice but to go north and around Cape Ann to reach waters they typically reach with straight shots through the canal.

Notable as the second-busiest drawbridge on the Atlantic Coast, the Cut, or Blynman Bridge, over the Blynman Canal, has been opening as many as 60 times a day this summer.

  5. Five of us went out of Conomo Point Friday evening for a short paddle out to Crane's led by _rick. A gusty wind on the way over provided some practice with edging and sweep strokes to avoid being pushed into the marsh. We passed Cross and Dilly and after a channel crossing we arrived on Crane's and enjoyed the sunset and watched the moon rise before paddling back under the now calm and moonlit sea. A beautiful evening in all. Thanks Rick for guiding the way and ordering such a lovely night.

  6. Does anyone have a 4 person tent I could borrow next week? I have what is laughingly called a two person tent but it's hardly big enough for me. We will be car camping from Maine to Cape Breton and would like a free standing, dry, easy to erect tent that you can somewhat stand up in.

Or do you have any good ideas on where to rent one?

Also any ideas for quiet paddling around the Bar Harbor area would be welcomed.

    Thanks,

    Joan

  7. I have a Northface Tadpole 23 tent which is classified as a 2 man 3 season tent. It would have to be 2 very small men but for one woman it is fine. Lightweight, easy to pack in a kayak and dry dry dry. I was caught in a fierce thunderstorm with raindrops the size of small boulders and just waited for it to soak in, but I remained dry as a bone. In fact everytime I've used it, it has rained. Only complaint is that on a hot rainy night with the rain fly on it really gets steamy.

  8. Many thanks to Deb and Bob, Walter and Jason for providing an excellent well planned trip. Deb and Bob for their co-leadership and maintaining a safe and informative course. Walter for his usual exuberance, history of the area and very helpful points regarding weather and hazards of the tides and boat traffic in the area. A wonderful day with wonderful people.

  9. A great report Bob. Thanks so much to you, Linda and Brian for providing such a wonderful experience. The weather you ordered was perfection itself and the company as well.

That big bull seal poking his head up and snorting at Dave and his crew obviously was not happy to see us. Anyone get a picture?

  10. I don't think parking should be a problem tomorrow morning but if it is we can always park at my house and I'll shuttle you down. I have a resident sticker. Hope to see you there around 9:30.
