  1. Has anyone used Perley's Marina in Rowley as a launch site. Read of it in one of the local paddling guides. Gary
  2. Thanks for the valuable input from everyone. Regarding wind direction and fetch, I would assume that a more westerly wind direction would mean smaller wave heights along the shoreline of Beverly. Though I realize that this weekend's marine forecast is for S-SE winds, I'm just trying to understand water surface conditions as a function of wind direction. It's probably mentioned in my copy of "The Fundamentals of Kayak Navigation". Just thought I'd ask here... Regards, Gary
  3. Hi- What are conditions like for paddling in the vicinity of Beverly Harbor, specifically in the vicinity of Lynch Park, several hours before high tide? High tide in the harbor occurs around noon-ish Saturday. Would paddling around 8 or 9 am be worth while? Thanks in advance, Gary
  4. A friend has made plans to paddle Great Bay (for the first time) towards late August without realizing that high tide for the selected day is around 8AM. Though I have recommended that she reschedule to a day when she can put in a couple of hours before high tide, what sort of implications might she face should she decide to still pursue a paddle on a day when low tide is around 1 PM? For example, is the Adams Point put-in accessible at low tide? Does she run the risk of getting stranded out in tidal flats, etc. Thanks in advance, Gary
  5. If one puts in at the Ipswich town landing, what sort of window of opportunity is one looking at in terms of accessing the Ipswich River at this location without encountering issues with mud flats? Is this launch site accessible within two hours of high tide, for example? Thanks, Gary
  6. I'd like to do a morning paddle behind Plum Island next week, putting in at the boat access provided by the Parker River Wildlife Refuge. Might someone know if the greenheads have made their presence known yet in that vicinity? Thanks in advance, Gary
