  1. Thank you Kevin, actually a drysuit is next on the list. I've been looking into the different types. Can anyone just go in to watch the sessions or do you have to pay to get in?? Tei
  2. Hi I'm more or less new to this paddling board but I've kayaked a bit over the past couple of years. A friend from another board suggested I join. Most of my paddling has been more or less towing the twins (12 yr) up the Nashua River with my oldest son, and gliding back down. Or cruising while keeping an eye on the twins on Paradise Pond in Leominster. I'm interested in getting together with groups and learning to do other then babysit the kids with my boats. Rolling is a definite, especially if I want to someday get out to sea which was my original intention in the first place when I started a few years back. Can anyone point me in the right direction?? Tei
  3. Adhesive tape (specifically masking tape) was invented in the 1920's by Richard Drew of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing, Co. (3M). Duct tape (the WWII military version) was first created and manufactured in 1942 (approximate date) by the Johnson and Johnson Permacel Division. Its closest predecessor was medical tape. The original use was to keep moisture out of the ammunition cases. Because it was waterproof, people referred to the tape as "Duck Tape." Also, the tape was made using cotton duck - similar to what was used in their cloth medical tapes. Military personnel quickly discovered that the tape was very versatile and used it to fix their guns, jeeps, aircraft, etc. After the war, the tape was used in the booming housing industry to connect heating and air conditioning duct work together. Soon, the color was changed from Army green to silver to match the ductwork and people started to refer to duck tape as "Duct Tape." Things changed during the 1970s, when the partners at Manco, Inc. placed rolls of duct tape in shrink wrap, making it easier for retailers to stack the sticky rolls. Different grades and colors of duct tape weren´t far behind. Soon, duct tape became the most versatile tool in the household.
  4. For a Christmas present in 2003 my husband bought me a Nissan X-terra so I would have an easier time transporting, snowshoes and skiis and snowboards and mountain bikes and rollerblades and kids and dogs and gardening and building supplies and now my kayak. Instead of a bow on the top, there was a case of duct tape in the back. Now thats thoughtfulness.
  5. Thats the one, nearly caused a few accidents, pulling over to watch from the bridge. Hey watching a kayaker out on a quiet lake sure beats 5 hours of explaining to customers what wire not to use unless they want a house fire
  6. Sean I live roughly 4 miles from Quinsig, that must be you I see on occasion on the lake as I head to work at HD in Shrewsbury. Do you paddle near 290?
  7. Actually if the weather holds out my husband and I will try to be at Lake Cochituate this weekend, the agreement is I get to paddle for a while close to them, we both have Rino 120s in case of emergency, as he and the 3 kids fish and then when I get tired I'll join him take the kids so he can fish alone for a while on the shore.
  8. Hi, my name is Tei and I received my Perception Carolina 14.5 as an anniversary present last October but haven't had a chance to use it yet. I've had one class so far this year but in a smaller kayak. I would love to go out again but am very leery about going out alone, fresh water for now as I live in Cental, MA. I thought about joining one of the groups that go out paddling but I know I need more experience and strength. I was wondering if there are any new paddlers around the Worcester area that I might paddle with. Since the kids are out of school my paddling times are either Saturday or Sunday mornings depending on my work schedule. I also plan on going to Lake Cochituate in Framingham and practice while my husband and kids are on the shore fishing. But again I don't really feel comfortable going out on the water alone yet. Does anybody have any advise?
