Sixth Annual New to Sea Kayaking Workshop

FYI: We presently have 73 participants! Admission is closed.

Part of the information we annually provide participants at the New to Sea Kayaking Workshop are ways to do what is listed below. Please let me know if you know of any commercial, club, or private programs in NH, MA, RI. As much detail as possible would be appreciated if you have the time. Include URL if you have one.

We certainly describe NSPN's programs (lake sessions, day trips, etc) so there is no need to mention them.

  • Rents boats/gear for the season.
  • Rents boats/gear for a day or weekend.
  • Get instruction on kayaking.
  • Day/Half Day trip in the area to experience kayaking.
  • Sells sea boats and gear.
  • Online sources for gear.
Thanks for your help,

Al

The New Hampshire AMC paddlers offer sea kayaking trips and some instructional trips. They do focus more on rivers but they have something for everyone.

Also, I have had very good experiences with trips led by AMC's Knubble Bay Camp Committee. They have some good weekend trips listed this summer on AMC website.

Both are great resources. However, and with no disrespect to Greg Paquin, he's a BCU 5* PADDLER and a BCU L4A coach. The BCU system for coaches vs stars for paddling achievement can be confusing at times. :)

Thanks for the corrections. Geesh, I really need to start getting more sleep! In my defense, the NTSK workshop planning has me running in several directions at once.

On Cape Cod, Goose Hummock offers rentals, guides, instruction and sells good quality gear. It's in Orleans.

For higher end instruction - once past the basics, Peter Casson with EMS, John Carmody (out of Boothbay Harbor, Maine), Mark Schoon (out of Mt. Desert) - all great instructors at all levels.

CRCK in Newton on the Charles where 128 and Commonwealth meet - good instructors and a number of courses. They also have kiosks further down on the Charles - one is at the Eliot Bridge.

Al,

I'll have literature from CRCK and REI (inc possibly a limited quantity of discount coupons) available at the workshop.

There's also New England Small Craft (NESC) at 295 Newburyport Turnpike (Rt. 1) in Rowley, MA. They stock mostly Prijon and Seda Kayaks, and also a few good quality used kayaks on consignment. They have a decent selection of kayaking gear including paddles, PFDs, spray skirts, wetsuits, paddling clothing, tow belts, dry bags, and other equipment. Online at www.nesmallcraft.com.
