Phil Allen
There's an article in Science magazine here that talks about reducing or preventing motion sickness. Take home is that there are sensors in the abdomen that contribute to our bodies interpretation of motion. As most here know, it's the disconnect between the movement of our bodies generated by the environment and the motions generated by muscles that leads to motion sickness. They identified a novel approach to reducing motion sickness which is to breathe out of sync with the motions of the environment. Most people tend to breath in sync with the environmental motions, which makes the disconnect, and motion sickness, worse. Who knew?
